Frank firing already

It has been a strong start for Thomas Frank. Winning three of his four matches, which included a 2-0 triumph over Man City in their own back yard, the former Brentford boss has been a breath of fresh air since taking over.

A solid second half display saw Spurs put three past West Ham, and with the hosts having Tomas Soucek sent off after 54 minutes, Frank's side could afford to take it easy for the final 15 minutes or so. Every opportunity to rest shouldn't be underestimated during this hectic period.

Mixed results from Villarreal

Villarreal came out of the traps very quickly, beating Real Oviedo and Girona to nil, scoring seven goals in the process. A 1-1 draw with Celta Vigo on the road followed, before Atletico Madrid comfortably beat them 2-0 shortly after the international break.

It's difficult at this stage to know how strong Villarreal will be this campaign. Both Real Oviedo and Girona are expected to be fighting for survival, and mustering up just one shot on target vs Atletico Madrid was highly concerning.

Operating with an old school 4-4-2 formation, Villarreal will look to defend in blocks and move forward as a unit. However, whether that will work against Spurs is a concern.

These two sides have only met once in a friendly all the way back in 2010. Villarreal came out on top 4-1 winners on that occasion, but the likelihood of that result repeating itself is highly unlikely given what we have seen from the two clubs in recent years.

Spurs have options with their attack - which is why we have seen them fire eight goals in four matches. Their attacking 4-3-3 formation should find gaps in Villarreal's rigid 4-4-2 approach on their travels, and opportunities will come over the 90 minutes.

Villarreal's recent performances have been concerning. They may have beaten teams expected to fight to avoid relegation, but the Europa League champions have too much quality in the final third for the Spanish outfit to deal with.
