We're being treated to a London derby this weekend as West Ham host Thomas Frank's Spurs. The Hammers will be hoping to build on their 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest, while the visitors will want to rectify their 1-0 loss against Bournemouth before the international break. Who's going to come out on top? Nathan Joyes discusses the encounter.
After three consecutive defeats across all competitions - shipping 11 goals - West Ham kept a clean sheet on the road as they caught Forest off guard to win 3-0 in the final 10 minutes. The question now is whether that was a turning point for the Hammers or whether Forest were incredibly poor due to their off-field problems.
Either way, West Ham are up and running and Lucas Paqueta not only scored from the penalty spot but told the fans he was going to stay at the club. Numerous positives from the match - and an international break in the middle to press the reset button may have actually come at a good time for the club.
But West Ham will know they will need to improve defensively if they are to have a successful campaign this season - and a first home win would certainly keep the fans on board against their rivals.
After back-t0-back wins for Thomas Frank against Burnley and Man City - without conceding - it was a shock to see Bournemouth rock up in the capital and play them off the park.
The scoreline may have only read 1-0, but the Cherries dominated from the first whistle. With 20 shots and eight corners compared to Spurs' five shots and zero corners, it was a case of back to the drawing board for the new head coach.
He can't afford to let his team be overrun like that - especially against West Ham - and clearly there is still plenty of work for his side to do if they are to have a much better campaign than last seasons.
This fixture is always one worth tuning in for - especially considering both teams have found the back of the net the last five times they've faced each other. This match finished 1-1 towards the back end of last season, although Spurs hammered West Ham 4-1 in their own back yard.
However, you have to go all the way back to 2019 the last time Spurs beat West Ham on their travels - no doubt giving Frank plenty to think about.
With contrasting performances last time out, it's difficult to know what West Ham or Spurs side is going to turn up after the international break. Will West Ham build on their 3-0 win and continue their good record against Tottenham? Let’s look at the Premier League betting odds.
Although West Ham dug deep and performed well at the City Ground, Forest clearly were in a fragile place mentally, and their two previous performances left a lot to be desired. Conceding eight goals in their opening two matches will have Hammers fans rather concerned.
Spurs' good work against Burnley and Man City was undone way too easily against Bournemouth - who, in theory, should have ran out much bigger winners on the day. After the international break, it's difficult to know what to expect from Spurs.
But this fiery fixture has so often brought goals - and with both teams scoring in the last five head-to-heads, it's difficult to oppose both defences not being exploited once more.
Not only is this a derby, but West Ham's matches have hit over 2.5 goals in all four matches this season - and that could be the most sensible play once more. Spurs showed a side of their game which can be exploited - and the Hammers can certainly look to do that at home.
