Wrexham host Forest at the Racecourse in a third-round FA Cup fixture. Both sides are yet to play a match in this season’s FA Cup; both teams will be looking to secure their first wins in the competition.
Louie Truman takes a look at the odds and provides his best bet.
The Reds have had a poor run recently in the Premier League, with four losses in their last five. However, they come into this fixture on the back of an impressive 2-1 away win against West Ham. After going 1-0 down, Dominguez and Gibbs-White got their names on the scoresheet to turn the game around.
Forest are on their third manager this season. Nuno Espirito Santo started the season but was replaced by Ange Postecoglou, who lasted just eight games, and now Sean Dyche has taken over as Forest fight to avoid relegation. Sean Dyche is one of England’s most respected managers; he’s won eight matches out of 17 during his time at Forest.
Wrexham’s rise through the tiers of English football has been a remarkable story. Following their headline-grabbing takeover in early 2021, the Red Dragons have climbed the league ladder at an unbelievable pace. They secured promotion from the National League to League Two during the 2022-23 season and then continued their momentum, earning a spot in League One in 2023-24.
The Red Dragons are currently in the Championship and sit in 9th place, just one point away from the play-offs. They come into this fixture in excellent form; Phil Parkinson’s side have won their last four league games.
Nottingham Forest and Wrexham have very rarely played each other — they’ve met only three times historically before this fixture. The last game between the two sides was on the 6th of October 1993; Nottingham Forest beat Wrexham 3–1 in the League Cup (second leg).
With Forest desperate to build momentum and Wrexham looking to progress to the fourth round, this should be an entertaining fixture.
Louie Truman has taken a look at the FA Cup betting odds for this match and put forward his best angle.
Forest will have high confidence coming into this fixture due to them coming into it on the back of a 2-1 away win against West Ham; Morgan Gibbs-White scored an 89th-minute penalty. The Reds had a memorable FA Cup run last season, reaching the semi-finals for the first time in 34 years. They became notable for winning three consecutive rounds on penalties before losing 2‑0 to Manchester City at Wembley.
Wrexham have scored 11 goals in their last four league games, and they have a great record at the Racecourse. Phil Parkinson’s side has only lost two home league games this season, so they’ll pose a threat, but Forest’s quality and depth should give them the edge.
