A BIG hello once again to all of you racing peeps!

No messing around, tomorrow marks the start of the countdown to the most-wagered National Hunt race of the year – The Grand National!

We all know that everyone, together with his granny and his dog, bets on that one race, but for you real racing fans, you’ll know that Aintree is hosting a three-day Festival, featuring so many amazing NH horses - and I’m going to work through all three of those days!

Without further ado, here’s my video with some of my picks and I’ll tell you how to find more in a bit…

My Aintree Festival Day 1 Selections

1.45 - ERNE RIVER @ 5/1

This horse comes into the race after winning his last four runs under Rules. He is rapidly on the up, is running for a small yard and he has been beating all of his rivals by a wide margin.

With a lot of his competition coming straight from the Cheltenham Festival, I think the fresh angle could bode really well for him and he clearly hasn’t stopped improving to date. Great value on offer for this up-and-coming Chaser.

2.20 - BRAZIL @ 5/2

This one is actually the horse I think should be Favourite for the Juvenile Hurdle tomorrow. Although PIED PIPER finished third in the Triumph, he didn’t seem like he was up for the battle when asked the question.

BRAZIL, on the other hand, battled extremely well, beating the enigma GAELIC WARRIOR when the two of them pulled clear of the rest in the Boodles Handicap Hurdle at Cheltenham. This trip is slightly longer, but I think BRAZIL is the one that will take some beating.

2.55 - PROTEKTORAT @ 7/2

PROTEKTORAT gets the vote for me, after finishing fresh in the Cheltenham Gold Cup. He finished third behind the winner (and runner-up) from the previous year, and he was not exactly given the roughest ride by his jockey.

He seems to have come out of that race extremely well and has some exceptionally strong course and distance form round Aintree. I think CLAN DES OBEAUX is going to be his main danger, but I can’t see anything else getting near these two horses. CLAN DES OBEAUX is now 10-years-old and with PROTEKTORAT being just 7 years, I would give him the edge here.

3.30 - EPATANTE @ 2/1

EPATANTE definitely gets the nod from me after running a belter in the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham. She gets the 7lb mares’ allowance here and tries 2m 4f for the first time. With the pace likely not to be too fast, her turn of foot should play the decisive factor in her winning tomorrow.

The last three renewals of this race have been won by the Irish. ZANAHIYR fits the bill well in that respect and could appreciate (and improve) for a step up in trip. That being said, he doesn’t have the turn of foot that EPATANTE has, so I'll side with her to get the job done.

This should be an absolute belter of a race!
