I have two hot betting tips for the Group races at Newbury on Saturday.
We start off in the Group 3 World Trophy Stakes, where I have a solid each way pick for you. He is one of the most straightforward horses in the field and he hasn’t stopped improving run by run. Get in quick, he’s flying at a very bettable price as I write this, but that is likely to change quickly when others catch on…
My NAP selection runs a little later in the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes, and I am really sweet on my selection here. My pick here is a horse that I earmarked for this race last time out and he was seriously impressive on debut. For me, this one is a Group 1 horse in the making and I expect a bold bid here.
Why not try some free bets for the weekend courtesy of Unibet? Bet £20 on racing, and you’ll get 2x £10 free bets in return.
The first race of the day at Newbury is the Group 3 World Trophy Stakes, and I’m really looking forward to this one. The current favourite is Mick Appleby’s Annaf. He has been running over further this year, but he proved a good winner at Doncaster on his last five furlong run, so that form gives him a big chance. Relief Rally is another who is in with a shout. He was second to Elite Status, who is the current course record-holder over six furlongs, and the drop to five won’t harm his chances.
But I think the one to beat here is
No Half Measures. He has continued to improve as a three-year-old and his Group 3 run at Longchamp last time out represents very strong form indeed. He finished sixth, but was actually less than a length behind the winner. He was absolutely flying late on when he eventually got a clear run.
Newbury will probably suit him better than Longchamp and I think he sets a fairly high standard here. Plus, having Ryan Moore in the saddle can only add to his chances. He is a straightforward sort who has very strong claims in this race.
The Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes is the headline race at Newbury, and we have a really good lineup here. Brian is a very likeable horse and very consistent, so he has solid credentials at a double figure price, and could be worth an each way bet. Symbol Of Strength is also in the line up here, and although he beat Brian last time out he hasn’t run on ground this soft before, and would need to prove he can be as effective on this surface. Defence Minister has been impressive on his two starts to date also, but would need to improve a fair bit to get in the frame here.
My selection, and NAP bet for Saturday, is Powerful Glory. He was a runaway winner on debut at Pontefract, and I have had him in mind for this race since that day. It’s easy to question the form of his last run, but he took the field apart and looks like there is so much more to come. In fact, I would go so far as to say that he has the capability to go on and contest in Group 1s further down the line. He is extremely well bred, a really powerful traveller, and he has a serious amount of speed. This horse is an extremely exciting prospect and I cannot wait to see what he is capable of.
