Wednesday Horse selections

Hereford: 3.05pm SOUTHERN SAM 7/2 @ Betfred

SOUTHERN SAM comes to this race with an outstanding chance and a bucketful of untapped future potential. He had two years off the track, before making his comeback over Christmas 2021- a challenging prospect for any horse!

Nevertheless, he ran a blinder, finishing third, but only making a handful of mistakes throughout. In addition, he was hampered twice during the race, the second time losing his position badly five fences out. Ultimately, he succeeded in making up ground and staying on very well, five lengths behind the winner and only missing out on second place by a neck.

He had a lot go wrong, but still managed to run a big race, even after such a long lay-off. He gets an extra half a mile this time and I think that will bring out more improvement still. He was bred to relish this trip and coming off the back of such an encouraging return to the track, he’s hard to oppose and showing at a generous-looking price to boot.
