Wednesday’s horse racing selections are…

MELLOW BEN - 3.00 Newbury – E/W @ 9/1

I think it could be worth taking a slight chance on MELLOW BEN in this handicap chase. He runs against a fair few out-of-form rivals here and his latest run was better than the bare form suggests. He was 17 lengths behind an impressive winner over hurdles and that, even prior to the off, wasn’t ideally set up for my selection, who puts up his best performances over fences. He gets the switch back this time and comes here after a small break, so fitness certainly shouldn’t be an issue. Prior to his hurdles run, we hadn’t seen him since June, where he ran an absolute belter of a race to finish 3rd in the Summer Cup at Uttoxeter. That off a mark 5lb higher than this and over 2 furlongs further. He takes on a fair few out-of- form rivals, but the reason for the E/W punt is due to the fact some could just bounce back to form. I think the 9/1 is more than a fair enough price to back each way. He should give us a good run for our money tomorrow.

MISS HERITAGE 3.30 Newbury - Win @ 5/1

MISS HERITAGE takes on a couple of decent rivals here, who were within a head of each other when they last met over a similar course and distance in December. Both sorts run tactical races and this may well just set things up nicely for my selection. MISS HERITAGE finished runner up in this race in 2021 and typically goes well this time of year. She showed that by running really well to finish second to Langer Dan in the Imperial Cup, when the winner was set out for the race. The first two are likely to prove popular, but Bryony gets a great spin out of my selection and I think she is the one to side with in this contest.
