WEDNESDAY’S SELECTION

SHARP RESPONSE 1.40 Catterick @7/1

SHARP RESPONSE has been very much out of form for the Sue Smith team in his only two runs this season. However, they did come in quick succession and after 725 days off the track. As well as that, both races were in a much higher grade than the one he faces here, so there is potential for him to bounce back to form on a course where he has a 100% winning record.

His latest runs were both on soft ground. In fact, he hasn’t raced on good ground since his last win over course and distance, so he definitely has his preferred conditions again here. His handicap mark has dropped significantly and he has run up to an official rating of 140.

If he is anywhere near that today, he could go really well. It is a shame there are only two places available for this race, but I will still take my chance on him @7/1.

GETAWAY JEWEL 3.40 Catterick E/W @ 11/1

GETAWAY JEWEL is another one where I believe the conditions are finally back in his favour, but I do think he is at the wrong price at 11/1. He may need to be at his tip top best to win this race, but he has good course form and has taken to fences quite well.

He proved himself with an excellent second three starts back, although he needs to continue improving. I believe that he has every chance of doing just that and is another with conditions ideal for this run in particular. This is an open race, but he is in good hands and I expect to see a good run from him.
