GLORY AND HONOUR is going into this race as an underestimated horse. The two market leaders SEE THE SEA and PILLAR OF STEEL are both on rolls this season but I feel they may have bitten off more than they can chew this time around. GLORY AND HONOUR comes into this race as the highest rated horse and is given top weight for his rating but this is a big drop in class and he could be tough to beat.
He has a 7lb claimer on board in the name of Thomas Doggrell which helps his cause and surely the 9/2 on offer is too big to leave alone. He had a zero next to his name last time out, but this run was better than the form figures suggest as he finished 10th in a decent Grade 3 handicap at Chepstow last time and he ran well for a very long way. He may have needed that run and is likely to be at peak fitness for his second run of the season and to me that makes him the value bet of the race @ 9/2.
MI LADDO is another who has a very good chance at a generous price from the bookies. He may have finished 4th to the re opposing RATHNURE RANGER (1st) and GERARD MENTOR (2ND) last time out however that doesn't really tell the whole story.
He was ridden with hold up tactics in mind and was travelling strongly picking off rivals one by one but when he pulled wide to make his winning challenge 3 out he was badly hampered and squeezed out wide losing his momentum and at that point looking like his race was done. He then rallied after a good jump 2 out and made significant distance towards the leaders and came to the line only finishing a length and a quarter back of the winner.
He gets into this race off not too dissimilar terms and has been given a featherweight to carry. The booking of Paddy Brennan is a big positive and I think he takes all the beating here.
TOMMIE BEAU makes his chase debut here after winning his last 3 in really good style over hurdles. This actually surprised me a little as I thought he looked every bit a chaser so to win 3 hurdle races before switching to fences is a very encouraging sign to his ability. I think he will be able to really make his presence felt here and although the favourite has some strong form, I think TOMMIE BEAU is going to be the toughest to pass in this race. He is still unexposed and there could be any amount of improvement to come from him over the fences. Big shout!
