The 2023 Ryder Cup gets under way in Rome on Friday and as usual I have some betting tips to bring you for the big event. But before we get onto those, let’s take a quick look at last week’s results.
It was a successful week on both the DP World Tour and we started off with Ryo Hisatsune winning the French Open for us at 100/1, as well as Kazuki Higa sneaking into the places for us at 300/1, so we made a healthy profit from that.
And for those of you who follow me on my social media channels, our winning streak didn’t end with the French Open. Over in Chicago on the LIV Golf Tour, Bryson Dechambeau won for us at 12/1, making it two winners from two events and a great week on the golfing front.
Before getting on my selections, why not grab yourself some free bets first? This week’s offer comes courtesy of BetVictor, who have a bet £5, get £30 in free bets deal ready and waiting for you.
This week’s Ryder Cup takes place at the Marco Simone Golf Club in Rome, so it is technically a home venue for the European team. Nevertheless, the USA are small-margin favourites, as things currently stand in the betting.
Beyond selecting the outright winner of the Ryder Cup, as this is a team event, the betting opportunities are slightly different, but I have come up with some selections that offer us a decent chance of success.
The USA team are currently 10/11 favourites to retain the Ryder Cup this week, while Europe are 11/10 to gain the victory on home soil. It’s not unusual for the USA to go off as Ryder Cup favourites, but this year, I strongly believe Europe have the winning squad. We have three of the top four players in the world and our team clearly come into this event in better form as individuals.
Looking at this on paper, I understand that the rankings for the USA team as a whole represent a better average. However, I still feel that the European team is in better form at the moment and are generally more reliable. The indomitable team spirit we have seen leading up to this event and the incredible form of the European team should see us pull off the win.
For the Top European player market I think Tyrell Hatton is a great fit at 15/2. He is absolutely relentless and looks like he will be tough to beat in the singles this week. He is quite an erratic player, but even when he drops shots, just seem to use his outlandish behaviour to good effect and bounces back with birdies more often than not.
I also think that Viktor Hovland is worth a look at 11/2. He is a player that is clearly thriving right now and he is also our strongest player on current form. He will be a really tough matchup for whoever faces him here. Both players hold strong value for the European squad this week at those prices.
The USA team has a really good squad on paper and the player I think will perform the best for them this week is Brooks Koepka at 13/2. He’s certainly their best big event player and to me he looks as though he will be the most difficult matchup for any of the European squad. He is long off the tee and aggressive, but he shows some seriously good control with his long game.
The other USA team player that stands out for me is Colin Morikawa at 8/1. He is one of those golfers who just quietly goes about his business, plays nicely and provided he has his putter working, he could quite easily find himself topping the ranks. Both of these players look like solid options for the USA team.
For my top overall player I have two selections, with both coming from the European team. My strongest selection is Tyrell Hatton at 20/1, who will be relentless this week. He’s a very attacking player, who comes here in fantastic form and he is exactly the type of big personality that the European team need to keep them motivated.
I think Viktor Hovland is the next best at 11/1. He has also been superb this year and It would be no surprise to see him turn out as Europe’s best player this week after such a strong season. Two big players at two big prices and both in with a chance of picking up a prize in this category.
For this week I advise win singles on all of the selections I’ve mentioned, which you’ll find summarised below. I’m also going to try four cross doubles (1.5pts Win) for the Top European and Top USA players, which are available on BetVictor, Boylesports and Betfair.
Europe @ 11/10
Tyrell Hatton @ 15/2 (5pts Win)
Viktor Hovland @ 11/2 (4pts Win)
Brooks Koepka @ 13/2 (2pts Win)
Colin Morikawa @ 8/1 (2pts Win)
Tyrell Hatton @ 20/1 (4pts Win)
Viktor Hovland @ 11/1 (2pts Win)
