In this week’s article I am going to be focusing on the South African Open Championship on the DP World Tour. This event takes place at the Blair Atholl Golf Club, which is a very long course indeed.
I have two betting tips for you this time around. Both players come from South Africa and I think they have incredibly solid credentials for this event. Neither of these players will struggle with the length of this track and I think they are going to be hard to keep out of the places this week.
For this week’s golf betting tips, it’s well worth heading over to Ladbrokes, where you’ll find a bet £5, get £20 in free bets offer waiting for you if you don’t already have an account there.
This week on the DP World Tour we have the South African Open Championship taking place at the Blair Atholl Golf Estate, over a whopping 8161 yards. We have a similar line up to last week, but there is an added incentive to play well this week, as the top three finishers automatically get a spot in the 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon.
Tristan Lawrence won this event last year and was odds on to win last week’s Joburg Open. But that was shortly before he had a complete meltdown in the final round, which is sure to have taken its toll. I’m certainly not convinced he can turn it around and retain his title here in Johannesburg, so I’m going for value elsewhere.
My main selection for this week is Zander Lombard, who played some quality golf last week and I think he can repeat that effort. He finished up in a tie for fourth and was very consistent all week, with scores in the 60s for all four rounds.
Backing home players isn’t something I tend to do usually, but they do seem to be significant in South Africa and Zander Lombard can definitely take advantage of this long course. In my opinion, 20/1 is decent enough value for a player of his ability.
Selection number two is Jaques Kruyswijk, the other player who managed to finish in last week’s fourth place tie, and he is in seriously good form at the moment. He finished 12th, 22nd and then 11th on the Challenge Tour, all immediately before the Joburg Open.
He is absolutely thriving at the minute and is another player who won’t find the length of this course an issue. Jacques hits a really good soft draw and he gets plenty of distance off the tee too, making him a great shout at 45/1.
