Just 4 points separate the AFL’s two newest clubs and with the Giants in 7th and the Suns 11th on the ladder, this is a crunch clash if ever there was one! Put simply, a loss for the Suns would surely spell the end for any finals’ aspirations this season as their run in looks like it will only throw up 2 more wins.
The well publicised away day horrors have continued for Damien Hardwick’s men and they now sit with a record of 0-7 on the road. It’s a completely different story at home where they’ve managed 9 wins from 10. The inability to get over the line though when travelling, even against opposition like North Melbourne and St Kilda is extremely concerning.
They now face a resurgent Giants team who started the season like a house on fire and were early flag favourites, only to throw in a 4 match losing streak. That form left a finals spot in jeopardy but there has been some positivity injected into the team with 4 wins from the last 7 and two on the bounce. In fairness, they’ve had a trappy run of games recently facing Carlton, Sydney, Port and Adelaide in Adelaide within the last 5 games.
There seems little point in overcomplicating matters when it comes to deciding who will take the 4pts here. We are happy to row in at 21/50 for GWS to extend the Suns’ 100% losing record, that record gathered over a solid sample.
The recent wins over Carlton and Richmond have looked a lot more like the brand of football we saw at the start of the year when winning their opening 5 fixtures. Rather than just a straight bet on the home win, I like the jump in odds we can find through the BetBuilder feature at bet365 by adding in Jesse Hogan and Ben King to score a goal. Both players are competing for the Coleman Medal at this late stage in the season and are come into this 8 point game in good form.
Both sharp-shooters sit on 45 goals this campaign, Hogan has averaged 2.64 goals per game (17 games played) this year and King an ever so slightly better average of 2.81 due to the fact he’s played a game less. I would go as far as to say that only an injury would stop these two registering a major and the fact our BetBuilder will pay 7/10 feels a rock-solid way to play this huge clash.
BetBuilder features are nothing new in the world of online bookies, however, the one at bet365 is far superior to most others on the market. To add to that, there’s a great welcome offer that you can claim as a new customer if you’re backing this tip. Bet £10, and you’ll get £30 in free bets. There’s still plenty of AFL action to come this season, and don’t forget that our Premier League football tips will be up and running again next month!
