I’m pleased to say that I am coming into this weekend in solid form, as both of my Friday selections landed at 7/1 and 5/2. Naturally, I’m hoping that trend will continue for us.
We have a great day of racing to look forward to on Saturday and for a change of pace, I’ve decided to combine my four selections for Haydock into a Lucky 15. I will also be backing my NAP selection as a single and hopefully I can bring us some more winners this weekend.
With such good racing coming up over the next week, I have got my favourite sign up offer ready for you to take advantage of. This one comes courtesy of Betfred who has a Bet £10, Get £40 in Free Bets deal up for grabs. What’s not to like about that.
I’m taking a slight chance with my first selection for the Lucky 15, which is the Saeed Bin Suroor-trained Live Your Dream. This one has been off the track for over 600 days, but his 12/1 price tag has rather tempted me in. Although he hasn’t run since 2021, he was a very smart horse back then and if he can pull out some of his previous form, then he’s a great shout.
The Bin Suroor team are in flying form of late and it would be no surprise if he were to turn up ready to go and he’s running off a pretty good Handicap here. The fast ground is going benefit and his raw talent makes him a really interesting contender in my eyes. The tactics here will be interesting, as he can go from the front, but has also won from the back in the past, so I can’t wait to see how they decide to play this race.
Personally, I’d like to see him nearer the back ready to start picking them off in the final couple of furlongs. He won the Bet 365 Trophy at Newmarket with similar tactics and for me, that race saw him at his best. Although a lot of the support for him is going on trust, this is a fairly moderate event and at his best, he wins this.
This is an exceptionally good fillies’ race which is dominated by the top two in the betting. Time Lock and Mimikyu have just a neck between them from when they met at this meeting last year and there isn’t much difference in their level of form. That said, Time Lock has only had the one run since and could be open to a little more still being very lightly raced.
However, the one I think will take some stopping is Modaara, running for Roger Varian. She was super-impressive on her seasonal debut, where she bolted up at Kempton by 13 lengths and looks like she is open to much more still. She is a very powerful mover and that previous run should have her spot on for this race as she tackles the turf for the first time.
She is a full sister to Group 1 winner Benbatl and I don’t think the switch to Turf will be an issue. I guess the only question she needs to answer is whether she can handle the step up in Grade, but I think she is more than capable enough to take it in her stride. She’s definitely going to be hard to stop here if she comes in the right form and is nowhere near the ceiling of her ability yet.
The betting for this Group 3 suggests this is a battle between the first four in the market, all being 4/1 or less. But I’m taking them all on and going for the Tim Easterby-trained Boardman. He is a horse I backed all through last season and I’m doing the same again this year.
I thought he would have won a couple of starts back, but he has taken a few extra races to get fit this time around, finally coming good last time out. He relishes this fast ground and coming off the back of a really good win at Chester, I’m going in again whilst he’s in peak form.
Although the first four in the market are clear of him on ratings, all of them need to bounce back to form, whilst Boardman is already flying. He has won a Class 2 in each of the last three seasons, so he isn’t far off this level when he is at his best and with question marks surrounding some of the classier types running here, I’m taking the double-figure value.
It really would be no surprise to find he is more than good enough to win a Group 3 off the back of his Chester win and Tim Easterby must be confident, as he had other options for him this weekend. He’ll be running over his favoured course and distance, the ground is right and he’s in hot form, so it’s not a tough choice to stick with him again.
Hopefully, this is the race that will bring us our fourth winner of the day. For this one, I quite fancy the favourite, In These Shoes, who runs for Charlie Johnston. Ryan Moore takes the ride and he will be a perfect fit for this filly. She won at Beverley on her first start of the season, travelled like a dream and found plenty when asked, leading me to believe she could have improved for her time off the track.
Ryan Moore being on board really does enhance her chances, as she will again need to be really strong at the finish. She was prominent all the way last time out and it’s fair to say those tactics will most likely be used again, making her a real threat to any others that think they are in with a chance here.
She goes up 5lb to contest here, but that shouldn’t be an issue as this race is no stronger than her last one. As far as I’m concerned, she showed a really good attitude last time out and will surely have come on for that run, so her claims are obvious. 11/4 is short enough, but I think she is a really solid contender here and will take some stopping.
So, that’s it for another week, and we’ve finished on a high with some strong winners on Friday and hopefully a few more to come. If you already have a Betfred account, don’t forget that there’s plenty more offers here at Betting.co.uk. We all know that it never hurts to have some free bets handy, especially with Royal Ascot just around the corner.
