It’s time for another Lucky 15, and for this one I’ve selected four runners from Day 2 of the 2026 Cheltenham Festival card. I think all four of these horses have a great chance of hitting the frame, and we might even have some winners. I'll also just mention that my betting tips for the Champion Chase and the Grand Annual are also live, so make sure you check those out too.
I appreciate some of you may be reading my content for the first time, so let me introduce myself! I’m Gav, better known as RacingGav here and on X (Twitter). I’m the resident horse racing expert at Betting.co.uk, which mainly involves bringing you free betting tips, but I also post other types of content including educational guides and big race trends. While I provide some of my betting tips here, the majority are exclusive to my Discord server, the details of which can be found at the bottom of this article.
As I write this article, William Hill are offering the best horse racing odds across the four horses. The market varies from combined odds of 7,559/1 to 14,534/1 but William Hill stand out by a mile at 20,195/1! In addition, they are also paying out ¼ odds for places too, which is a big plus! Last but not least, if you sign up and bet £10, you’ll get £30 of free bets. That’s fantastic all round value!
I tend to look for value deeper in the market and that’s exactly what I’ve done here. I have picked four horses at prices varying from 8/1 to 16/1. I think all four have a great chance of placing, or perhaps even better.
All season long, No Drama This End has looked the real deal and therefore, it is no surprise that he heads the market for the Turners Novices’ Hurdle. There’s a lot of talk about how he is a three-mile chaser in the making or the next Denman, and he may well follow in Denman’s footsteps and get beaten here before going on to do great things!
From across the Irish Sea, King Rasko Grey and Ballyfad bring the best form, but that took a knock yesterday when Talk The Talk didn’t fire in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle. It also concerns me that both were considered Supreme horses but now line up in the weaker of the two races.
In a nutshell, I feel that Bossman Jack has progressed in each of his three runs over Hurdles, without looking like the finished article. With the way he keeps improving from run to run, he could be anything, and the fact that the Skeltons send him here, in the Grade 1 they won last season with The New Lion, speaks volumes.
In the last fifteen years, Nicky Henderson’s runners have performed exceptionally well in this race. Spirit River (2010), Whisper (2014), William Henry (2019) and Dame De Compagnie (2020) all won the race for him. Many more have hit the places, including Craigneiche and Impose Toi, who both finished second in recent years. With the ability he has shown over fences, I think there could be plenty more to come from Jingko Blue off his lower handicap mark over hurdles of 144.
After a second and two wins in his first three starts over Hurdles, Jingko Blue was thrown into what is now the Turners Novices’ Hurdle. The fact Nicky Henderson felt he was up to a Grade 1 task says plenty to me. I really like his form from the Relkeel Hurdle on New Years Day, where he finished between two higher-rated horses, Kabral Du Mathan and Lucky Place. The former is well fancied for the Grade 1 Stayers' Hurdle tomorrow, and the latter is a solid performer.
I was lucky enough to visit Nicky Henderson’s yard earlier this season and he was very much of the opinion that we haven’t seen the best of Jingko Blue to date, hopefully we will see it now! To land a race like this at the Cheltenham Festival, you need a Graded horse in a Handicap, and Jingko Blue is exactly that.
A good friend of mine told me that this mare is fancied to go close in the Grand Annual. She has reportedly been working the house down, and they feel she has really turned a corner in the last two weeks. Sometimes you get word for a horse, but they drift in the market, meaning those involved are not putting their money where their mouth is. However, Break My Soul has been well-supported from 25/1 to 16/1 and as short as 11/1 in places. At least in this instance, it looks like they are walking the walk as well as talking the talk.
In short, Break My Soul has excellent form including at Grade 1 level. Her yard have always felt she would be a decent Chaser, but she hasn't had ideal conditions in her starts over fences to date, as it has been a very wet winter in Ireland this season. Over fences in Handicap company, and on better ground she should outperform her odds!
The Champion Bumper is one of the toughest races of the week to call. Basically, we are looking at a 22-runner field of unexposed horses that are developing at a fast rate! With all of them open to improvement, it makes gauging their ability level incredibly difficult. Patrick Mullins said in a recent clip that any one of four from Closutton could win this, and given they have won six of the last ten renewals, they know what they’re talking about. In fact, Willie Mullins is the top trainer in the race with 14 victories in total, and Patrick is the most successful jockey in the race having ridden four winners.
Paul Townend may be Closutton’s number one, but when it comes to Bumpers, Patrick Mullins is their go to man. As a general rule, whichever horse he decides to ride is Willie Mullins’ best contender in the race. Nonetheless, Patrick has also seen other horses from his yard sail past him and go on to win. One of the most famous examples of that was when Ferny Hollow powered past Appreciate It at the business end of the 2020 Champion Bumper.
Interestingly, Patrick Mullins has chosen Love Sign d’Aunou, which must be respected. However, I've heard rumours suggesting that he wanted to ride Quiryn, but couldn’t do the weight. Being a four-year-old, Quiryn will carry 10st 11lb, rather than the usual 11st 7lb. That weight is beyond Patrick Mullins, the lightest he’s raced at in the last 12 months is 11st exactly. Paul Townend gets second pick, so naturally he has opted for Quiryn. It's also worth noting that although Quiryn is only four he was in training as a Flat horse before a hatred of the stalls derailed his career in that discipline.
We all want to back winners, especially so during Cheltenham Festival week. But when you play a Lucky 15 and select horses with fantastic each way prices, there is plenty of scope from places alone. On the basis of 50p each way (ÂŁ15 total stake) with four places, our Lucky 15 could potentially return ÂŁ256.00. Of course the dream is to have a full house of winners, which would return ÂŁ14,925.50!
I think all four of my selections can give positive answers to those questions, and I will be happy enough if they all just manage to place. However, I genuinely believe we have some winners among my four Day 2 selections.
