I have already published one antepost tip for the 2027 Cheltenham Festival, with a 50/1 selection for the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase. That was back in March, near enough straight after the 2026 Cheltenham Festival ended. However, I will now be publishing one free tip for the 2027 Cheltenham Festival every month, starting here. For this article, I have a selection for you at 33/1 in the biggest race of them all, the Cheltenham Gold Cup!

2027 Cheltenham Festival - Cheltenham Gold Cup - Kaid d’Authie @ 33/1 (5 places) - 0.5pt each way

At the time of writing, the odds for Kaid d’Authie to win the 2027 Cheltenham Gold Cup vary from 20/1 to 33/1. Three bookmakers are offering the best horse racing odds at 33/1, and one of those is BetMGM. They also have the best new customer deal of the trio. Two racing powerhouses combine!

Willie Mullins has won the Gold Cup five times. Two wins with Al Boum Photo, two wins with Galopin Des Champs, and most recently, with Gaelic Warrior. JP McManus has been the winning owner on two occasions, with Synchronised (trained by Jonjo O’Neill) and Inothewayurthinkin (trained by Gavin Cromwell). However, next year’s Gold Cup looks likely to see these two powerhouses joining forces.

Kaid d’Authie progressed with every completed race last season

Kaid d’Authie was only five at the start of the 2025/26 National Hunt Season, and he progressed consistently across the season. His first race saw him come second to stablemate Kitzbuhel, when the pair met in a Beginners’ Chase. However, Kitzbuhel went on to win the Grade 1 Kauto Star Novices’ Chase at Kempton on his next start, and he later went on to win the Grade 1 Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase at this year’s Cheltenham Festival. Kitzbuhel is a speedier type, so the 2m 3f trip was more his style, and he was also rated a stone better over Hurdles at the time.

Kaid D’Authie raced over 2m 6f on his second start, another Beginners’ Chase, which he won comfortably by 10 lengths, having brushed aside a solid marker in Wingmen. But it was his third race that drew the most attention. He went to the Grade 1 Novice Chase at the Dublin Racing Festival, where stablemate Final Demand was 30/100F. Arguably, Final Demand wasn’t at his best, but Kaid d’Authie beat him emphatically. Interestingly he wore cheekpieces for the first time that day, which clearly worked well.

The next logical step was the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase at the 2026 Cheltenham Festival, where Kaid d’Authie lined up alongside Kitzbuhel and Final Demand again, as well as several other promising Stayers. Kaid d’Authie went off at 4/1 and was going well when he sadly came down at the 13th fence. In his defence, Romeo Coolio made a shuddering error in front of him at the fence and I just wonder if that impacted him. The fall came too soon to know how he would have fared, so we didn’t learn a great deal. However, given that Kitzbuhel and Final Demand finished first and second respectively, I’d like to think Kaid d’Authie would have been involved at the finish as well.

Willie Mullins has dominated the Gold Cup in recent years

The Irish have dominated the Cheltenham Gold Cup in recent years. Since 2014, only two of the 13 winning horses were not trained in Ireland. Conyegree won for Mark Bradstock in 2015, and Native River got his nose in front for Colin Tizzard in 2018. All eight winners since 2018 were Irish-trained, and remarkably, five of the eight ran for Willie Mullins. When assessing possible contenders for the 2027 Gold Cup, it stands to reason that Willie Mullins’ horses command plenty of respect.

Galopin Des Champs is retired now, so the obvious one is Gaelic Warrior, but his current 2/1 to 9/4 price tag reflects that. Fact To File is priced between 14/1 and 20/1, but he didn’t run in 2026 because they don’t think he stays, so there’s no good reason to suggest he’ll run in 2027 either. If we look to the next wave of talent coming through from the novice ranks, the three key names are Kitzbuhel, Final Demand, and Kaid d’Authie.

As we know, Kitzbuhel won the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase at the 2026 Cheltenham Festival, Final Demand finished second, and Kaid d’Authie fell too far out to say how he would have fared by the end. However, the Anglo-Irish Chase Classification 2025/26 has Kaid d’Authie at 158, with Final Demand and Kitzbuhel both at 155.

Looking at the antepost market for the 2027 Cheltenham Gold Cup, Final Demand is the shortest of the three at 12/1 to 16/1. Kitzbuhel is next at prices varying between 16/1 and 25/1. Kaid d’Authie is further out again, priced between 20/1 and 33/1. I just wonder how much this comes down to Final Demand’s reputation and Kaid d’Authie’s fall at Cheltenham. Perhaps a case of ‘out of sight, out of mind’. But the facts are there to see. Kaid D’Authie beat Final Demand at Leopardstown, and is officially higher rated. That said, Kitzbuhel has beaten both of them, but he does have his quirks.

Is Kaid d’Authie the answer?

Kaid d’Authie is a six-year-old with just three completed starts over fences, and I feel there is plenty more to come from him. He’s a year younger than Final Demand, and less exposed over fences than both Kitzbuhel and Final Demand. I just feel that between Final Demand’s huge reputation and Kitzbuhel’s high profile wins at Kempton and Cheltenham, Kaid d’Authie is being overlooked at 33/1.

With Fact To File pushed down the Ryanair Chase route, and Inothewayurthinkin losing his way, the door is open for a new JP McManus contender to burst onto the scene. I think Kaid d’Authie might just be the one, especially as he is under the care of Willie Mullins, who has dominated the Gold Cup in recent years.

Jango Baie must be respected after his second in the race last year, given his age and his subsequent win at Aintree. However, beyond him and Gaelic Warrior it looks a wide open 2027 Gold Cup renewal to me. To get involved this early, you want one at a price and Kaid d’Authie certainly ticks that box. It is often said that to play antepost, you want a horse that you feel would be a third of the price or less lining up on the day. At 33/1, that means we would want Kaid d’Authie lining up at around 11/1 on the day, and I’d say there is a great chance that he will.

Given we are only in June 2026 and there is a lot of water to pass under the bridge yet, I’m keeping the stake modest, but at 33/1 I want to get that price locked in now, and there’s nothing to stop us loading up nearer the time.
