It’s a new week and we kick this one off with an antepost pick! I have looked through Tuesday’s racing, and it’s modest at best, so I have looked  to the future and I've found a 14/1 gem for the Sprint Cup Stakes at Haydock on 5 September.

If you’re new to my content, then welcome aboard! I’m RacingGav and I’ve been the resident horse racing expert here since March 2025. Since then, I have provided free horse racing tips with great success.

  • Saturday 5 September 2026 - Sprint Cup Stakes (Haydock) - Big Mojo @ 14/1 (3 places) - 1pt Each Way

Back Big Mojo with Betano!

As I produce this article, the best horse racing odds for Big Mojo at 14/1 are available at Betano! The brand also has a generous sign up offer for horse racing fans. bet £10, you’ll get £30 in free bets. The all round value makes it well worth opening a new account.

Big Mojo can land back to back renewals!

Throughout its history only one horse has managed to win back to back renewals of the Sprint Cup Stakes, and that horse was Be Friendly in 1966 and 1967. However, I believe Big Mojo is capable of pulling off that feat and in this article, I’ll explain why.

Big Mojo has had excuses so far this season

Looking at Big Mojo’s form, with the exception of his latest run, he’s had a very poor season. His first three runs produced form figures of 780, but I believe he has excuses for all three races.

First there was the Group 2 Minster Stakes at York, where Big Mojo had to carry a Group 1 penalty (for winning the Sprint Cup Stakes last year). Consequently he was up against it, conceding weight to the whole field. The 5f King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot was too sharp for him, and the July Cup Stakes had a draw bias that favoured the far side, so he had no chance from a low draw.

Big Mojo returned to winning ways last time out

After three tough races for Big Mojo, I think Michael Appleby executed a fantastic plan. Ultimately, a repeat run in the Sprint Cup Stakes was always the target, but what would Michael do with Big Mojo in the interim?

Well, he decided to send him over to the Curragh for the Group 3 Phoenix Sprint Stakes. It was a five runner field and on ratings, Big Mojo was entitled to win it. He was sent off 5/4F and did exactly that in great style. That victory should have done his confidence the world of good, and I think the impact of such runs can often be underestimated. It was also pleasing to hear that Tom Marquand felt he had plenty left in the tank at the finish as well.

Big Mojo is proven over today’s C&D

After his Irish victory, the next step for Big Mojo is a return to the Sprint Cup Stakes at Haydock. We simply know that on a going day, he is good enough to win this race, as he did exactly that last year. He proved he enjoys the 6f trip at Haydock and that he is a Group 1 horse when at his peak.

I think the market is taking his early season form too literally and underestimating him. My long term followers will remember that I tipped Big Mojo for the Sprint Cup Stakes last year and he won the race at 16/1 SP. Despite that form in the book, he’s available at 14/1 to win again this year, and I’m more than happy to get involved at that price!

Can Big Mojo retain his crown?

I think Big Mojo is capable of winning the Sprint Cup Stakes next weekend. I genuinely believe he has had excuses this season, as explained above. He showed his ability remains when winning last time out over in Ireland, and that confidence booster will have done him the world of good. There is no doubt he has the class to win this race as he did exactly that last year.

However, he has come up short at Group 1 level twice this year, and the race he won last time out was only a Group 3. On that basis he needs to prove he can step back up and compete at top level. In addition, where the pace is drawn can be crucial in these sprint races, so we are also gambling on the draw working out in Big Mojo’s favour.

All elements considered though, I think 14/1 is too good to miss, and I’m keen to lock it in early. As the race gets closer, many will latch onto the fact he won last year and if they do, the 14/1 could quickly evaporate. I’m taking a risk here and playing a full 1pt each way as I genuinely think the value is exceptional at this stage.
