Horse Racing Betting Tips - Friday 19 June 2026 - Royal Ascot - Day 4

Key Points
  • Today’s betting tip impressed me on his seasonal reappearance
  • This horse should relish the return to Ascot and the step up in trip
  • Trainer Alan King could have his second Royal Ascot winner today

We have already enjoyed three fantastic days of horse racing action at the 2026 Royal Ascot meeting. However, we still have two days to go, and I’ve found a cracking selection at 25/1 that looks all set to run a huge race!

If you’re new to my articles, I’m the resident horse racing expert here at Betting.co.uk. My name is Gavin Smith but I’m better known here and on X as RacingGav. I post free horse racing tips most days, and I’m guessing that’s why you are here now!

I’m not just one dimensional though, I also publish many other forms of content like big race trends, and educational guides, plus horses and trainers to follow on a monthly basis.

If, like me, you are a National Hunt fan at heart, make sure you have a read of my antepost articles for next year’s big races! I’ve already tackled the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase as well as the big one, the Cheltenham Gold Cup at the 2027 Cheltenham Festival. I have also covered the biggest one of them all, the 2027 Aintree Grand National, so be sure to take a look at that one too!

Betting advice

  • 15:40 Royal Ascot - Insanity @ 25/1 (5 places) - 1pt each way

Back Insanity with William Hill

As I write this article, William Hill has the best horse racing odds available for Insanity at 25/1, with five places on offer. William Hill also ticks another box with its great sign up offer. If youbet £10, you’ll get £30 of free bets. Excellent all-round value.

A price of 25/1 looks ‘Insanity’ to me!

I would be pretty shocked if Insanity doesn’t go off at a much shorter price than 25/1. I appreciate it’s a big field, and a very competitive race, as you would expect at Royal Ascot, but I just think it’s completely wrong. In this article, I’ll run through the reasons why.

Insanity impressed me on his reappearance run

Insanity made his seasonal reappearance at Pontefract at the end of April. That run came off the back of a 164-day break, so it’s pretty safe to assume that he needed that run. It was also over 1m 2f, which is on the sharp side for him, even though Pontefract is a stiff track. Despite that, he ran a cracker to finish in second place.

If you disregard his Doncaster run in November, which was on Heavy going, his two races at York in August and October both resulted in strong second places. The first was over 1m 4f (form franked) on Good to Firm, and the second over 1m 2.5f on Good going. Also, in his last run here at Ascot, over today’s 1m 4f distance, he placed third, but he was only beaten one length at the line.

Insanity should relish the return to Ascot and the step up in trip

As the old saying goes, horses for courses, and Insanity seems to love Ascot. He has run here three times, all over today’s distance, in top Handicap races, and has produced form figures of 213. Insanity has never been beaten by more than a length, so the fact that he is back here again today cannot be overlooked.

Likewise, if you look at his record, you will see that all four of his wins were over distances between 1m 3.5f and 1m 5f. Therefore, the step back up from 1m 2f at Pontefract last time, to 1m 4f today is another positive.

Trainer Alan King could have his second Royal Ascot winner today

You should always tread carefully with a small sample size, but it must be said that I find Alan King’s runners at Royal Ascot this year very interesting. He has only had two runners over the last three days, but they have both run huge races. In turn, that suggests he is only sending them here if he believes they have a real chance.

His first runner this week was Barnso, who ran in the Ascot Stakes and finished fourth, beaten by just less than three lengths. Considering that was his first run for 248 days and he was sent off at 40/1, that performance can be marked up. His second horse was Daiquiri Bay in the Copper Horse Stakes. Not only did he run exceptionally well, he won! If Insanity can follow in their footsteps, surely another big run is coming!

Can Insanity give Alan King a second 2026 Royal Ascot winner?

I think Insanity has a fantastic chance. His reappearance run really impressed me, considering his time off the track and the inadequate trip. Ignoring his Doncaster run due to the Heavy ground, his races before that one were very impressive. With a run under his belt and a step back up to a suitable trip, I expect to see an even better performance. To top it off, Alan King’s Royal Ascot runners were in top form, which bodes well for Insanity.

In terms of negatives, I don’t have a great deal! A draw in stall three can become a coffin if you miss the break. But in a race this competitive, it could be over from any stall with a poor break. On the flip side, if Insanity can bounce out and secure a prominent position on the rail, he’ll be going the shortest route. The only other negative is a slightly picky one, as I’d have preferred Good going , rather than the predicted Good to Firm. He is pretty versatile, I just don’t think he likes extremes either way.

Considering all of those points, I think he’s completely underestimated at 25/1. There is plenty of value in that price, so I’m having a solid 1pt each way play on Insanity. In all honesty, the thought crossed my mind to go for more, but in a race of this size and nature, I’ve decided not to get too carried away.
