Horse Racing Betting Tips - Saturday 13 June 2026 - York

Key Points
  • Today’s betting tip has unfinished business in this race
  • Despite winning last time he retains handicap scope
  • He can take this step up in class in his stride

Last Saturday, we very nearly landed a 16/1 winner with Vintage Clarets chasing home Arklow Lad. Vintage Clarets flew home from the rear of the field, losing by less than a length at the line. We have another horse with a big price tag this Saturday too, with Leadenhall running at York at odds of 14/1. Hopefully he can go one better for us!

If this is the first time you’re reading one of my articles, welcome! I’m RacingGav and I’m the resident horse racing expert here at Betting.co.uk and I produce multiple articles here each week. My top priority is providing free horse racing tips, but I do much more besides. Away from the betting side, I recommend horses to follow, collate big race trends, publish educational guides and I've recently added trainers to follow to my list as well.

Betway has a unique offer for new customers!

Of course, a huge factor in which bookmaker I recommend is simply down to which has the best horse racing odds for my selection on the day. Betway are offering a market leading 14/1 and are paying out for five places. New customers to Betway can collect a fantastic reward too.  Not only will they offer you up to £30 in a Matched Free Bet. The value doesn’t end there though as you’ll also receive a £30 Uber Eats voucher!

A matched bet up to £30 received as 3x £10 bets to use for any horse racing market, and a £30 Uber Eats voucher.

Leadenhall could have plenty more to come!

It is pretty rare to find me advising a bet on a last time out winner. Rather than looking at the horses that have just won, I’m trying to find the ones about to win. However, I think Leadenhall is both, a winner last time, and ready to win again.

Leadenhall has unfinished business in this race

If you look back through his form to this time last year, you will see that Leadenhall ran in this race back in 2025. He raced in the rear of the field but flew home late on to be part of a four way finish at the line. Half a length separated four runners at the post, so the result could have gone various ways. Sadly for Leadenhall, he placed third, a neck behind the winner.

That run was off a mark of 78 and despite winning twice since, Leadenhall returns back for another crack at the race off a 4lb lower mark. If he ran in last year’s race off a 4lb lower mark, he simply would have won given the tiny margin of defeat. So hopefully he can replicate that performance and come home in front. It is also worth noting that last year he had to come from stall ten but lady luck has been kind to him this time around with the plum draw in stall one!

Despite winning last time out Leadenhall retains handicap scope

Last year, Leadenhall won his reappearance off 73. He then finished third twice off 78 including in this race before going on to win again a few runs later off that mark of 78. He even went on to later finish within a length and a half of winning off a mark of 80.

Therefore, between the manner of the victory and last year’s form in the book, I believe the handicapper has underestimated Leadenhall with his 2lb rise from 72 to 74. In my eyes, James Sullivan was just kidding him along to win in Class 5 company last time out and he was far superior to his opposition that day. If he wanted to, I’m convinced that James could have won much more convincingly than he did. However, in handicaps, you often want to win by as little as possible in order to remain competitively treated. Sitting 4lb below his penultimate winning mark, I think Leadenhall can produce back to back wins.

Leadenhall can take this step up in class in his stride

As touched upon, Leadenhall capitalised on the drop down into Class 5 company last time. He caught my eye on his reappearance run at Pontefract in Class 4 company. Stepping up into Class 3 company, I thought he ran well in defeat. Whilst he only finished seventh, he was only beaten three lengths and he was staying on at the finish.

He went into my tracker that day with a note that read - “Looks handicapped to strike and solid run in good company. One for when he drops down into Class 4 company in a suitable race.”. As it transpired, they managed to get him down into Class 5 company rather than Class 4, the Discord members and I had a 2pt Win bet on at 5/2 and he obliged. With just a 2lb rise, he comfortably remains in Class 4 company this time and I think he can prove to be well treated still by going in again.

Interestingly, the yard won this race in both 2018 and 2019 with Give It Some Teddy and Poet’s Dawn respectively. They have then had the neck second in 2021 and a nose and a neck third last year. Therefore, it’s clearly a race they seem to target and perform strongly in, so I suspect this has been the ultimate aim for Leadenhall.

Does the market have him the completely wrong price?

When you look at the positives, there are certainly plenty of reasons as to why Leadenhall should be a significantly shorter price. He has strong form in the race previously as does his stable. He comes here in winning form and off just a 2lb higher mark, which looks very lenient to me. Last season, he went on to win off a mark 4lb higher, so he looks to have plenty of handicapping scope left despite winning last time. Ultimately, I felt he could go and win a Class 4 after his strong run in Class 3 company on his penultimate start and collecting a Class 5 along the way can just be a bonus. It is also worth noting that he is drawn far kinder than last year’s run as well (1 vs 10).

In terms of negatives, he is 2lb higher and up in grade, so he needs to back that run up and translate that form across. The 2026 renewal of this race also has 17 runners whereas he only had to face 10 rivals last year. That said, he loves to come off a strong pace, so if anything, the bigger field could actually be a help rather than a hindrance. In all honesty, I’m struggling to find a great deal in terms of negatives. If you wanted to pick holes in Leadenhall himself, you could argue his strike rate of 4/31 is underwhelming.

Taking all of the factors into account, I simply feel they have completely underestimated Leadenhall in the market. I feel he was value for more than the winning margin last time out and he can put in another big performance here off just 2lb higher. I’d personally have him right towards the top of the market here and therefore, I think 14/1 is an outstanding price. Therefore, I’m having a strong 1pt Each Way bet here.
