I’m back with another betting tip for you today, and this one runs on the All Weather (AW) at Chelmsford. My selection has slipped to a dangerous mark and could capitalise on that here, especially if he gets a lead at the front of the field.
If you’re just discovering my free horse racing tips for the first time, then welcome! I’m Gav, better known as RacingGav here and on X. I have been the resident horse racing expert for Betting.co.uk since March last year, and you are more than welcome to check my results from March to December 2025, which make very pleasant reading. You might also be interested to know that I run my own Discord channel, which was launched in January 2024. You’ll find full details at the bottom of this article.
At the time of writing this article, bet365 is offering the best horse racing odds for Parramount. While most bookies have him priced up between 7/1 and 15/2, bet365 stands out with odds of 8/1. The value doesn’t stop there though! As a new customer, if you bet £10, you’ll get £30 in free bets. Market leading odds and a fantastic new customer deal, what more could you want!.
I think Parramount is very underestimated in this 1m 5.5f Handicap at Chelmsford, especially as he has plenty in his favour today. In this article, I’ll break down my logic and explain why I think he’s a great bet today!
At the end of 2024, Parramount was in fantastic form on the AW. He won a race similar to this one at the end of November 2024, off a mark of 74, producing a strong RPR of 82. In a tougher race next time out, and off a 4lb higher mark of 78, he proved it was no fluke by finishing third, producing the same RPR of 78. Off his current mark of 72, he is 2lb below his last winning mark, and 6lb below the mark when he placed.
It’s also worth noting that he has excuses for his last two AW runs. In January last year he was taken on for the lead and simply failed to produce his best form. We didn’t see him again until November, fresh back from a 308-day absence, and it seems that run was just a pipe opener prior to his subsequent runs over Hurdles.
It’s also worth noting that Parramount’s last three AW starts were in Class 4 races, for horses rated 0-85. And he met with some very tough opposition in all of them. However, if you go back four runs, in November 2024 he raced in Class 5 (0-75) company and he won easily that time. Today will be Parramount’s first Class 5 race since then, and hopefully we’ll see the same result!
Interestingly, his overall record in Class 5 Handicaps reads 221, so he is clearly very effective at this level, and I feel that side of things is being completely overlooked in the market here. Hopefully that will be to our advantage.
I’m pleased to see that Jack Doughty is riding Parramount again today. I think Jack is a fantastic young jockey with a very bright future. It was no surprise to see him ride out his claim as quickly as he did, especially with the backing of Tony Carroll. The fact he subsequently landed the stable jockey role at Tony’s yard speaks volumes too.
Jack rode Parramount for his last four AW runs, which include his Class 4 win and place, so he knows the horse pretty well by now. Admittedly, Jack was also on board for Parramount’s lesser efforts, but as I’ve already mentioned, I feel there were excuses for those runs.
There are various positives here for Parramount. He is handicapped to win at 2lb below his last winning mark, and he placed in better company off 6lb higher. The last time he dropped to a Class 5 race he won, and he has strong form figures for his three Class 5 runs on the AW. I’m also a big fan of Jack Doughty, and we already know that he can get a great tune out of this horse.
On the negative side, Parramount performed below par on his last two AW runs, although I believe he had valid excuses. But my biggest concern is the pace in the race. Parramount only tends to have one way of racing, and that’s trying to dominate from the front of the field. However, Veraison also likes to lead, and if the two lock horns, it could be their downfall. Must Believe and Relocal are likely to be up at the front too, so it looks a very strong pace on paper. I’d much prefer it if Parramount had an easy lead, but at this level, he should simply be too strong for them anyway.
At a price of 8/1, and three places on offer at bet365, I think Parramount is well worth playing each way here. Although I don’t see him finishing outside of the first three, given my concern that he could be challenged for the lead, and the potential consequences of that, it’s just half stakes here..
