Horse Racing Betting Tips - Thursday 25 June 2026 - Newcastle

Yesterday’s betting tip was a profitable one as Leadenhall finished second at 15/2, returning place money. It looked like he would come out on top with a furlong to run, and he even hit as low as 1.2 (1/5) in-running, but sadly he couldn’t get past the eventual winner. Hopefully today’s selection at Newcastle can go one better!

I think The Glen Rovers can strike again off today’s handicap mark and in this article, I’ll explain why. Keep reading if you want to understand my rationale.

The Glen Rovers has an excuse for his latest run

It’s best to forgive the latest run from The Glen Rovers. He was entered for a race at York in May, which as you’ll know is a turf track. He hasn't run on turf for two years now, and all of his best form has been on the All Weather.

Despite not having his preferred surface, to his credit, he still ran a decent race. Finishing in ninth place might not seem that great, but he was only beaten by five and a half lengths, and he produced a strong RPR of 90. For some context, his three previous runs on turf generated RPRs of 58, 54, and 59.

The Glen Rovers boasts an impressive strike rate on the All Weather

As I mentioned in the previous section, The Glen Rovers has produced his best form on the All Weather. To date, he has recorded six wins from 12 runs, which is an incredible 50% strike rate.

Whilst impressive enough already, you can mark the record up even further as you can draw a line through some of those runs. For example, his trainer publicly commented that the first two runs of this campaign were required to get him fully fit. Then once he was, he won his penultimate start. If you limited his record to only runs where he was fully fit and trying, it would be even stronger.

The Glen Rovers is undefeated over today’s course and distance

Whilst his overall form on the All Weather is impressive enough, it is particularly impressive when limited to 1m 2f here at Newcastle, as The Glen Rovers won over twice. His first win was nothing special, as it was only a Class 6 Apprentice Handicap.

However, his latest C&D win was in the All Weather Easter Classic Middle Distance Handicap on AW Finals Day, with a total prize fund of £175,000, with an eye-watering £90,195 going to the winner. A very competitive field of 14 lined up but he cut through them like a hot knife through butter, so I don’t believe a 3lb higher mark will stop him from winning again.

Can The Glen Rovers remain undefeated over C&D?

The Glen Rovers has plenty going for him. It’s easy to forgive his latest run at York given it was on turf, which is not his preferred surface. He has a fantastic strike rate of 50% on the All Weather with six wins from 12 starts. His record over C&D is two wins from two races, including a £175,000 series final, and a mark just 3lb higher could underestimate him.

In terms of the negatives, he isn’t easy to train, which is why he has only raced 17 times as a seven year old. We are also assuming that his poor performance last time was down to the change of surface rather than anything else. Weighing everything up though, I still think there’s value in his 10/1 odds, especially with four places on offer. That said, given the negatives, I am reducing the stake down a little to 0.75pt each way today.
