We head off to Nottingham for today’s betting tip. It’s a track this mare loves and I think she is the one to beat. While the current favourite has tons of promise, she has questions to answer, and she is priced far too short to be worth the risk.

As I’ll come onto, Thunderous Love was given a questionable ride at Salisbury last time. Rob Hornby will be keen to put that right today and I believe he can. I’ll also break down my reasons for backing Thunderous Love today.

Thunderous Love had a questionable ride last time out

In July 2025, Thunderous Love went to Salisbury under Rob Hornby, where she was supported into 5/2 joint favourite. She travelled strongly that day, leading from over 1f out, and staying on strongly through the line to win.

She was looking to defend her crown last time out, but rather than travelling through the race behind the leader, Rob kicked for home over 3f out. Thunderous Love looked like she would win the race, but she ran out of steam near the finish.

If Rob had held onto her for longer, I think she would have won, he simply kicked for home too soon. I’m certain he’ll be keen to make up for that mistake today and if he does, it’ll be his fourth win on the mare.

Thunderous Love is a dual course and distance winner

Thunderous Love seems to enjoy Salisbury, and she has recorded two wins and two second places there from nine runs. She arguably loves Nottingham just as much, and she is a dual course and distance winner here too.

From her four runs at Nottingham she has produced two wins, one second and one third place, so she has never been out of the first three. Furthermore, four of her five wins on Turf were on Good to Firm ground, which is what she gets today, so it looks ideal for her.

Off this mark Thunderous Love should be dangerous!

Thunderous Love won over C&D off a mark of 58 in April 2025, and a mark of 61in June 2025. That alone makes her interesting today off a mark of 62, but the fact that she came second here in July 2025, off a 6lb higher mark of 68, adds another dimension.

Similarly, her win at Salisbury in July 2025 came off an 8lb higher mark of 70, so we certainly know she can be competitive at this level. Despite a questionable ride last time out, she ran a stormer, which proves she is in great form and will hopefully put her best foot forward today. Her current mark also looks lenient as she didn’t receive a handicap rise for the performance at Salisbury last month.

According to the market, Sugar Sugar is the one to beat and I can see why, as she has shown tons of promise in her short career to date. There could be a lot more to come and if she delivers on that, she will be tough to beat. However, I hated her head carriage last time, and she was all over the place, so she looks far from straightforward. At a price as short as 5/4, I’d rather take her on than back her!

Can Thunderous Love thunder home for us?

Thunderous Love’s recent C&D form and handicap mark are there for all to see. She has Rob Hornby in the saddle, who knows her well, and will be keen to make up for what happened last time out.

In terms of negatives, her two course and distance wins came off slightly lower marks of 58 and 61 compared to her current mark of 62. However, she has placed off a 6lb higher mark of 68 over C&D, and won off 70 at Salisbury, so she looks handicapped to strike on today’s terms.

Considering all of the above, and the questions hanging over the seemingly not straightforward favourite, I think Thunderous Love is a great bet at 11/4. I also believe she is well worth a full 1pt stake.
