It’s time for my first horse racing tip this week! We have action at Taunton, Southwell, and Wolverhampton today and it’s a horse at Taunton that has caught my eye! I think he is overpriced at 7/1, and with three places on offer he's ideal for an each way bet.
If this is your first time here, I’m RacingGav and I’m the resident horse racing expert at Betting.co.uk. I publish several daily or antepost betting tips every week, along with other content like big race trends and educational guides, so there should be something for everybody to enjoy! By the way, if you are looking forward to the 2026 Grand National as much as I am, then make sure you check out my antepost pick.
At the time of writing, bet365 has the best horse racing odds for Siam Park at 7/1, with three places available. Plus, they also have a fantastic new customer offer. If you bet £10, you’ll get £30 in free bets. All things considered, it’s worth opening an account if you don’t already have one!
As a general rule, trainers will let their horses tell them when they are ready to run. Some want a decent break between their races, while others thrive on racing regularly. As Siam Park is back just 15 days after his last race, it suggests he has been in great form at home, and is ready to go again.
After recording four wins from seven starts over fences, Siam Park is now rated 116 in that discipline. However, following a fall at Sandown in January, which kept him off the track for 65 days, he switched back to Hurdles.
One reason will be to rebuild his confidence before he tackles fences again, but another is undoubtedly his handicap mark over Hurdles. While he is rated 116 over fences, he is only rated 106 over Hurdles, which looks an obvious mark to exploit, given the ability level he has shown over fences.
Taunton is quite a quirky course. It’s right-handed and sharp, so it can catch a few out. They tend to start racing a long way out, and the downhill stretch to the second last Hurdle, can see horses with less experience come to grief.
However, Siam Park clearly enjoys Taunton. He is already a two-time winner here, having recorded victories over fences in February and March last year. That course experience will be a big advantage for the race today. He has stepped up in trip to 2m 3f, but that shouldn’t be a problem considering he won over 2m 3.5f at Stratford last March, and was just a short head away from winning over the same trip at Plumpton in April.
Siam Park switched back to Hurdles last time out, which was over 2m 0.5f here at Taunton, and I thought he ran an eye-catching race. He led, as he often does, but he was pestered which didn’t help his cause. He also made a bad mistake at the second last, which knocked the wind out of his sails, but despite that he rallied well and was beaten by less than three lengths at the line.
With an uncontested lead and a better jump at the second last, he certainly would have finished much closer. However, the way he stayed on regardless suggests he’ll enjoy the longer trip today. It’s also worth noting that his last run came after a 65 day break following his fall at Sandown. There’s every chance he’ll take a step forward for that run, and if he does, he should go very close here!
To date, Siam Park is 0/9 over Hurdles, but 4/7 over fences. That record over fences is quite remarkable considering he fell on his latest start, so he’s actually 4/6 in completed starts. He is back over Hurdles today, but there is plenty of cause for optimism, not least that he is rated 10lb lower over the smaller obstacles. We know he enjoys this track, as he is a two-time winner here. He steps up in trip to 2m 3f, but given he has won over 2m 3.5f previously, the trip won’t be an issue, and may even bring improvement. He ran an eye-catching race over Hurdles last time, and I think he can repeat the performance today.
On the negative side, he is 0/9 over Hurdles, and I’m also quite concerned about the way this race might be run. Siam Park likes to dominate his races from the front, and I suspect both Wolf Walker and Knock Off Soxs will have the same idea. I hope he either gets an uncontested lead, or that his jockey drops him in behind. If all three go from the front regardless, they could end up taking each other on, and setting the race up for a closer.
