It was a very solid week for my free horse racing tips last week. I put up three selections at double-figure prices, and all three hit the frame meaning that every selection was profitable. Of course it would have been lovely to hit a big-priced winner, which we very nearly did with Vintage Clarets, but provided we keep building on our progress so far this month, I won’t complain!
If you’re new to these articles, I’m RacingGav, the man behind the horse racing content here at Betting.co.uk. I mostly provide betting tips but plenty more besides. For starters, I publish big race trends, and there’s already a decent selection of educational guides for you to read. In addition, I put up a horse to follow each month, and recently added trainers to follow to my repertoire too. Both of my June articles are already live, so be sure to check them out!
At the time of writing, bet365 is offering the best horse racing odds for Thunderous Love. Whilst the rest of the market have her priced between 4/1 and 5/1, bet365 is showing odds of 6/1. That looks fantastic value to me and it’s a price well worth taking. Speaking of value, new bet365 customers who sign up and bet £10 get £30 of free bets. That’s definitely worth checking out.
Thunderous Love’s form for this campaign doesn’t look appealing with figures of 5769. However, we might just see a change today, which I’ll explain in the sections that follow.
With her best effort this campaign resulting in a fifth place, Thunderous Love doesn’t seem the most obvious horse to back. However, when you scratch below the surface, it looks like she has valid excuses for all four of her runs this season.
Her run at Leicester four starts back was her first run for 201 days, so that one is easy to forgive. The next was at Ascot in a Class 4 Handicap with a big field of 18 runners, so that was always going to be a big ask. On her penultimate start at Lingfield, she hated the track and the step up to 7f.
Her last run was at Goodwood on Friday, where she reared as the stalls opened, and due to being slowly away she was forced to race widest of all. The positive effect of those below par efforts is that her handicap mark has dropped 5lb from 73 to 68, leaving her dangerously handicapped here.
If we isolate Thunderous Love’s form to Salisbury only, it reads very well. From her seven starts here, she has recorded two wins and a second place. The first of her wins was back in May 2024 on Soft going off a mark of 54. However, the second was in July 2025 on Good to Firm going off a much higher mark of 63. The latter was also a Class 5 Handicap, whereas her earlier win was in in a Class 6. Both showed what she was capable of when in the mood, and also show her versatility in terms of ground conditions.
Arguably, her Newbury win was topped by her performance here in September, when she finished second to Thunder Blue, beaten by just half a length. That was in a Class 4 Handicap on Heavy ground, where Thunderous Love raced off a mark of 73, and produced a career best RPR of 78. Considering her top two performances produced RPRs of 77 and 78, if she runs to that level off today’s reduced mark of 68, she could have up to 10lb in hand here.
Apprentice jockey Olivia Tubbs was in the saddle on Friday when the race was lost at the start. I’m not saying it was her fault, but it does feel like a jockey upgrade to have Rob Hornby back in the saddle.
No jockey has ridden Thunderous Love more than Rob. After all he has ridden her for 16 of her races, so he knows her better than anyone else. Furthermore, Thunderous Love has won three times, and placed a further three times under his guidance. On paper, this race lacks obvious pace angles, but if Rob can get her to jump out strongly, and dominate from a prominent position, she should take some beating here.
I think Thunderous Love has a huge chance of bouncing back to form. She has excuses for her mediocre runs in this campaign, she’s a dual C&D winner, and also placed second here off 5lb higher, where she was only beaten by half a length. Combining those factors with her reduced mark, and Rob Hornby back in the saddle, everything looks right.
In terms of negatives, she has obviously been below par this season. She also comes here after racing last Friday. That said, she has handled a quick turnaround many times before, and her latest win was off an eight day turnaround.
All told, I think she is well worth an each way bet here at 6/1. Given the fact she does need to bounce back to form and must handle the quick turnaround, I have reduced the stake to 0.75pt each way.
