Spirit Of Nature remains unexposed after just four career starts and is worth another look now he returns for his second run of the season. His comeback over this C&D a fortnight ago didn’t tell the full story, he was held up, never able to get competitive, and finished seven lengths behind Samra Star. But that run came after a second breathing operation, and horses often need a run to sharpen up after wind surgery. He travelled okay in patches, suggested there was more under the bonnet, and wasn’t knocked about once his chance had gone.
Last year’s three outings also came in novice company, where he was always likely to be learning on the job. His pedigree and run style both hint that 1m to 1m1f will suit him better than sharp sprints, and he’s shown enough to suggest he can progress once he finds his level. The course specialist jockey/trainer combination is a positive, and this is a race lacking depth, ideal conditions for a lightly raced type to step forward. There are dangers. Bridgefoot Rambler outran huge odds at Thirsk and is respected, while Hostelry could improve in first time headgear. But Spirit Of Nature has the most scope. If the wind surgery has helped and he’s sharper for the run, he can take a big step forward on handicap debut. He’s still learning, still strengthening, and this level looks right for him. Worth chancing.

2:45pm 7f Ladbrokes "Big Daily Boosts On Racing" Handicap (Class 6) (3yo+ 0–65)
Carmel Valley has found her stride since adopting front running tactics and arrives here with strong claims after two solid course efforts. She was a close second over 1m here in June, then backed that up with a bold front running third over this C&D two weeks ago, beaten just over a length by Imperial Guard. She travelled smoothly, dictated the pace, and kept on well, a performance that suggested she’s still improving.
She’s only had six career starts, remains unexposed, and has now been eased 1lb, which looks generous given how competitive she’s been in recent handicaps. The switch to positive tactics has clearly helped her settle and use her stride, and the return to 7f looks ideal: she has the pace to get a handy position and the stamina to keep finding late. This is a competitive Class 6, with dangers in Novak, who is well handicapped, and Yaaser, who had excuses last time and is now on a fair mark. Albeyours also appeals dropping back to 7f. But Carmel Valley’s profile is the most compelling. She’s improving, she’s responding well to her new style of racing, and she’s already shown she handles this track. Her latest run was full of promise, and with another small step forward she can get off the mark. She’s a 3 yo with upside in a race full of exposed types, and that often proves decisive at this level.

3:15pm 1m2f Ladbrokes "Get More With Ladbrokes" Handicap (GBBplus Race) (Class 4) (3yo+ 0–80)
Star Cast has been one of the success stories of the season and returns from a short break with every chance of landing another victory. She’s won six races already in 2026, including her latest over this C&D in June when beating Mr Lincoln by over two lengths. She travelled strongly, quickened decisively, and looked well ahead of her mark. A 5lb rise still leaves her competitive, especially with Jake Dickson able to claim 5lb again. She’s effective from 1m to 1m4f, handles good and soft ground, and has thrived since joining Gemma Tutty, who is in excellent form. The break looks intentional, keeping her fresh for the second half of the season, and she’s the type who runs well off a short layoff.
There are dangers. Stablemate Ziata is unexposed after her Windsor maiden win, while Spirit Of Acklam arrives in form and should be fine dropping back in trip. Lorca’s Waltz is another improver who looks ready for 10f. But Star Cast sets the standard. She’s thriving, she’s battle hardened, and she’s already proven over this C&D. Her form figures, her attitude, and her versatility all point to another big run. If she returns in the same mood, she can complete the hat trick.

Henery Hawk is a multiple AW winner who has rediscovered his form on turf in recent weeks, finishing placed in three consecutive sprints here. His latest effort, third over 5f behind Sixcor, was one of his best turf runs to date. He broke sharply, travelled well, and kept on strongly to be beaten only three quarters of a length. He’s now eased 1lb, which looks a fair adjustment. Although he’s 0/24 on turf, that stat needs context, most of those runs came before he found consistency on the AW, and his recent turf form suggests he’s finally translating that ability to grass. The return to 6f should suit, he stays well, finishes strongly, and often travels better over the extra furlong.
This race is competitive for the grade. Baby Rover is well handicapped, while Sixcor remains a danger after beating him last time. Yaaser also has claims if bouncing back. But Henery Hawk’s recent consistency stands out. He’s running well, he’s holding his form, and he’s finally showing he can be competitive on turf. With a small weight drop, a suitable trip, and a race full of exposed sprinters, he has every chance of making his presence felt again. He’s in decent nick, and this looks the right spot for him.
