Tuco Salamanca was progressive throughout last season and has continued that upward curve in 2026, producing two strong wins over 6f on the all weather at Kempton and Newcastle. He’s a powerful traveller who tends to move through his races smoothly, and although his turf efforts this year have come in hot handicaps, he’s still shaped with credit. His latest run at Goodwood in the Stewards’ Cup can be forgiven entirely, he wasn’t ideally placed, never able to latch onto the main group, and the evidence is mounting that he’s simply more effective on the AW. Even so, he’s run well at Ascot before, and the decision to drop him to 5f today is interesting. He’s never tried the minimum trip, but his style, strong early pace, travels hard, and keeps finding, suggests it could suit him. Horses with his profile often sharpen up when dropped in distance, and he’s the type who could be dangerous if the race sets up for a prominent or stalking ride.
He arrives 1lb lower than his latest turf run and still looks fairly treated based on his AW form. The win over Evening Saigon’s race at Newcastle reads well, and his Kempton success earlier in the year was authoritative. There are dangers, notably Bolo Neighs, but Tuco Salamanca’s blend of strong travelling, proven 6f ability, and the potential spark from dropping to 5f makes him a very interesting contender. If the trip unlocks even a small amount of improvement, he can go close.

2:10pm 2m Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Stayers (Handicap) (GBBPlus Race)(Class2)(4yo+ 0-100)
Shrimp Shady is a low mileage stayer who has really found his stride since being returned to longer trips this season, and he arrives here as a major player once again. He kicked off his turf campaign in style when landing the Chester Plate over 2m2f, travelling strongly throughout and showing a willing attitude when asked to stretch clear. That performance marked him out as a horse on the up, and he confirmed the impression at Newbury last time. That Newbury win over 2m required a bit of graft late on, he was all out to shade the verdict by a nose from Team Player, but the key takeaway was how powerfully he travelled deep into the race. He moved like the best horse for a long way, handled the fast ground well, and once again showed determination when it mattered. He’s only 3lb higher today, remains lightly raced for a 4‑year‑old, and looks the type to keep improving now that staying distances have unlocked his potential.
He’s effective from 10f to 18f, acts on quick ground and the AW, and the Moore combination is always a positive in these staying handicaps. His profile is upward curving, his attitude is solid, and he’s already won three times this season, suggesting he’s thriving. This is competitive, but Shrimp Shady’s blend of strong travelling, proven stamina, and scope for more off a workable mark makes him a serious contender once again. He should be right in the thick of it.

2:45pm 1m4f Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Challenge (Handicap) (GBBPlus Race)(Class2)(4yo+ 0-100)
Night Breeze returns to a familiar stage and looks primed for another big run. He won this race last year off an 11lb lower mark, travelling strongly and asserting with authority over this C&D, and he’s looked an even better horse throughout 2026. His latest efforts in top handicaps show a gelding thriving at the peak of his powers. He probably wasn’t seen to best effect behind Sportingsilvermine at Newmarket, never quite getting the ideal run of the race, but he bounced right back at Glorious Goodwood when third in the Chesterfield Cup. That was over an inadequate 1m2f, yet he still finished just a length behind Al Aali, travelling smoothly and keeping on strongly late. The way he shaped there, despite the trip being on the sharp side, suggests he’s holding his form exceptionally well.Back up in distance today, on a track he loves, he’s very hard to knock. He’s effective from 10 to 12f, handles everything from good to firm to good to soft, and has solid AW form too. His profile is one of steady, reliable progression: a C&D winner twice in 2025, a strong scorer at Epsom in April, and consistently placed in competitive handicaps since.
There are dangers. Insanity should appreciate dropping into 0 to 100 company, while Frances Ethel has form that makes her interesting if she returns in similar shape. But Night Breeze sets the standard. He’s thriving, he’s battle‑hardened, and he returns to his ideal trip at a track he knows inside out. Expect another big run.

3:20pm 6f Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Sprint (Handicap)(Class2)(3yo 0-100)
Red Spells Danger has really come into his own since being dropped to 6f, and he arrives here as a thriving, battle hardened sprinter who keeps turning up and running big races. He bolted up at Ripon in May, then followed that with a dominant 4 length win at Hamilton off a much lower mark, travelling strongly and putting the race to bed in decisive fashion. That switch to sprinting has clearly unlocked him, and his profile has been upward ever since. His last three runs have all come in hot handicaps, and he’s performed with great credit each time. He pushed Thunder Call close in a strong 3yo contest at York in June, then ran solid races in deep fields where the form has repeatedly been franked, including in the Stewards’ Cup. His latest effort, finishing fifth behind Stratusnine at York, was another step forward, he travelled well, moved into contention, and just flattened out late, but the run still reads very well in the context of the race.
He’s 1lb lower today, remains effective at 6f and 7f, and handles a sound surface. His trainer has kept him in competitive company, and the fact he continues to run big races suggests he’s still improving. The drop to sprinting has sharpened him, his cruising speed is excellent, and he’s shown he can sustain his effort deep into the final furlong. There are dangers, Bolo Neighs is progressing, and Thunder Call remains a benchmark in this age group, but Red Spells Danger has the strongest recent sprint profile. He’s thriving, he’s reliable, and there’s no obvious reason he won’t be bang there again.
