Horse Racing Betting Tips - Tuesday 4th August 2026 - Ffos Las

2:30pm 6f Happy 70th Birthday Brian Glanville Handicap (Class 5) (3yo+ 0-70)

Newsreader has become a tricky horse to assess, but there are enough positives in his profile to think a revival could be close, especially now starting out for a yard that has an excellent record with new recruits. All three of his wins came over 7f at Kempton in 2024 when trained by Kevin Philippart de Foy, showing a sharp turn of foot and a strong cruising speed on the all weather. Since switching yards he hasn’t quite rediscovered that spark, but he’s slipped to a career low mark, and his latest run suggested he might be stabilising. That most recent effort at Kempton over 6f was better than it looks. He finished sixth, beaten just 1¾ lengths by Initial Blue, running to his current form off a 2lb higher mark and shaping as though 7f still suits him best.

He’s effective at 6f and 7f, acts on soft, good and the AW, and now joins a stable enjoying a tremendous season, one that has already produced multiple first time out winners from new arrivals. If they can find the key to him, Newsreader is very well handicapped. His Kempton form reads strongly for this level, and he has the right blend of pace and stamina to be competitive if confidence returns. The dangers are clear. Monsieur Patat arrives in form, and Safari Dream is capable when things fall right. But Newsreader is the one with untapped upside, and this looks the right moment to take a chance on him bouncing back.

Selection: Newsreader 7/2 with BetMGM

3:00pm 7½f EBF Novice Stakes (GBB Race) (Class 3) (2yo)

Perfect Nation has shaped like a colt with plenty of upside and now looks set to follow up his Lingfield success. He made a highly encouraging debut at Windsor, finishing second to Flann Sunna, a colt who has improved sharply since and wasn’t beaten far in the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood. That form has been emphatically franked, and Perfect Nation looked much more professional when returning at Lingfield. Upped to 7f, he travelled strongly, made all, and stretched clear to win by nearly 3 lengths, confirming the promise of his debut and showing he’s learning quickly. He was well backed that day, handled the track smoothly, and looked a colt with both pace and substance. His pedigree supports further progress too, a son of Pinatubo out of a lightly raced mare, and he moves like one who’ll stay 6f and 7f equally well.

He carries a 7lb penalty, but the manner of his Lingfield win suggests he can cope with it. He’s effective on good to firm and the all‑weather, his trainer is in form, and his debut run has aged beautifully. Everything points towards another step forward. The dangers are clear. Avionics is improving and should run well, while First Mate can build on a mildly promising debut. But Perfect Nation sets the standard, has the strongest form in the race, and looks the one they’ll all have to get past. If he builds on either of his first two runs, he should take plenty of beating.

Selection: Perfect Nation 5/4 with BetMGM

3:30pm 7½f Ken Meredith Memorial Race Handicap (Div I) (Class 6) (3yo+ 0-65)

Cypriot Diaspora returns to her favoured C&D and looks ready to build on a much‑improved run here in June. She was a dual C&D winner last summer, producing strong, determined finishes over 6 to 7f on ground with a bit of cut, and those performances marked her out as a mare who thrives around this track’s rhythm and turning nature. She hasn’t quite hit the same heights since, but her latest effort, third behind Tonal, was a clear step back in the right direction. That run came off a 1lb higher mark, and she shaped well, travelling smoothly, holding her position, and keeping on for a solid third, beaten 4 lengths. She’s now 9lb below her last winning mark, which makes her very interesting, especially given her proven record here. She’s effective from 6f to 8f, suited by ground with a bit of ease but perfectly capable on good, and her all weather form can be ignored, she’s simply a better mare on turf, particularly at this venue. Her yard is in good form, and the booking of Oisin Murphy is a notable plus. With her mark now lenient, her course record strong, and her latest run suggesting she’s turning a corner, she has to be high on the shortlist.

The dangers come from the less exposed types. Thestral has shaped with promise and can bounce back, while Grand Vista could be sharper early in first‑time cheekpieces. But Cypriot Diaspora’s blend of experience, track affinity, and handicapping leniency gives her a major chance. Back at her favourite course, back below her last winning mark, and back in form, she’s a big player.

Selection: Cypriot Disaspora 9/4 with BetMGM

4:00pm 7½f Ken Meredith Memorial Race Handicap (Div II) (Class 6) (3yo+ 0-65)

Rosemary’s Rose has been knocking loudly on the door all summer and now finds a race that looks tailor made for her to finally get back to winning ways. Both her victories came over 1m on the all weather earlier in the year, but she’s run several solid races on turf since, including a strong runner up effort over 1m here and a good third at Lingfield last time. She’s consistent, reliable, and holding her form, and with Oisin Murphy booked for the first time, she has plenty going for her. Her latest run at Lingfield is better than the bare result. She was forced to wait for a gap, lost momentum at a key stage, yet still ran to form, beaten just 3¼ lengths by Dannick off this same mark. She travelled smoothly, handled the 7f trip well, and shaped as though she’d have gone even closer with a cleaner passage. She’s effective at 7f and 1m, acts on soft, good to firm and the AW, and her consistency makes her a very solid option in a race lacking depth.

Her mark keeps creeping up, but she’s still competitive off it, and her previous good runs at this track suggest she’ll be right at home again. With Murphy taking over, a significant booking in this grade, she should get the strong, well timed ride she often needs. The dangers are headed by Kaleidoscope Eyes, a C&D winner who has run back into form, and Cosmic Jive, who looks to have been given a lenient opening mark. Both have claims, but Rosemary’s Rose brings the most solid recent profile and the strongest combination of form, track suitability, and jockey uplift. She’s consistent, she’s in form, and she’s well placed. This looks a good opportunity for Rosemary’s Rose to return to winning ways, and she earns the vote.

Selection: Rosemary's Rose 7/4 with BetMGM
