The 2026 Cheltenham Festival is over but the show goes on! My Saturday Lucky 15 has become a stalwart of the Betting.co.uk tipping content, and this weekend it’s the ITV Racing action at Uttoxeter and Kempton that takes centre stage! I have two selections from each track, and collectively they make up our four horses for the Lucky 15 bet. All four selections are priced between 13/2 and 12/1, and I’m confident they can all outrun their odds!
Are you new to my content here on Betting.co.uk? I’m Gavin, more commonly known as RacingGav on X where I have amassed nearly 16,000 followers now. I’m the resident horse racing expert here at Betting.co.uk and I generally write several articles each and every week! My main task is to provide free horse racing tips. I post a mix of both daily betting tips as well as throwing in some antepost selections. The majority of my tips are for are single bets, but I include a Lucky 15 every Saturday to add some spice, especially for more casual or weekend-only punters!
If you are keen to learn more about horse racing and/or how to further your betting ability, I have produced many educational guides during my time here at Betting.co.uk. I’d recommend taking a look at some of the articles I’ve already published. These cover topics like how to read National Hunt race form, the differences between professional and amateur jockeys, and the different types of horse racing headgear you'll see in use. All of these guides can help you take a step up from being a casual follower, to getting more serious about the horse racing game.
As I write this article, there is a wild swing in the combined odds for the four selections across the different bookmakers. The combined odds range from as low as 4,535/1 to 8,007/1. However, bet365 stand out head and shoulders above the rest with the best horse racing odds of 8,579/1. As well as the value to be had on the odds, there is also a great sign up offer from bet365. If you bet £10, get £30 of free bets. That’s awesome value all round!
Although there is horse racing action from 13:25 at Fontwell to 20:30 at Southwell, I have coincidentally picked out four horses that all run within one hour! My first selection runs at 14:25 and the last one lines up less than an hour later at 15:18! Hopefully it will be a small amount of time but a great result!
Whilst he has a record of 4/12 under Rules as a whole, John Barbour remarkably has a record of 3/3 at Uttoxeter. If he keeps that record going, he’ll end up with a statue at the track! With such a strong record, he commands plenty of respect, as he clearly loves it here.
In all honesty, I thought the valuable race at Ascot might have been beyond him, but he really rose to the occasion, proving that he is a progressive horse. He was only a neck away from victory that day and the winner, Fiercely Proud, ran a respectable race in the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival yesterday. After that effort at Ascot, he is more than entitled to have a crack at a valuable pot like this. He is up a further 3lb for that neck second last time, but is yet to reach his ceiling. John Barbour's 10st 10lb racing weight here is a huge plus, and ironically it’s the exact same amount he carried last time.
He does need to find more to win this, but he could do that naturally, and to help him out, Fergal O’Brien has pushed him up in trip from 2m 3.5f to 2m 7.5f, which could well bring about more improvement. He’s never raced beyond 2m 4.5f but he is bred to be suited by more of a stamina test. He was sired by Yeats, who was an exceptional stayer (four Ascot Gold Cups). He is also closely related to winners St Barts (useful 2m 4f-2m 7f Hurdler/Chaser), G A Henty (2m 7f Hurdles/3m Chase), and half-brother to smart Bumper and 2m-2m 4f Hurdle/Chase winner Gidleigh Park.
La Pinsonniere first caught my eye around this time last year when she ran at Newbury in the EBF National Hunt Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 2), worth nearly £30,000 to the winner. She was positioned towards the rear and got badly hampered when Sunset Marquesa came down at the second. La Pinsonniere could have easily been forgiven if she was pulled up or was soundly beaten after that incident. However, at the business end she found more and more for pressure, to only just be held at the line by Siog Geal, who is a mare I rate highly.
On her next start, she tackled Listed company. This time the race all went smoothly and at the end of it, her and Jubilee Alpha pulled clear from the field. Sadly though, Jubilee Alpha for Paul Nicholls came out on top. Jubilee Alpha was rated 127 that day and she is now rated 139, having briefly been rated 141, so that form line reads well now in hindsight. For this run, La Pinsonniere was raised from 123 to 130 and that’s in addition to the rise from 118 to 123 for Newbury. Therefore she ended up going up 12lb in two runs without even winning! That said, I still think a mark of 130 could underestimate her.
After a 296-day break following that Cheltenham run, La Pinsonniere returned to Warwick on Heavy ground which was completely unsuitable. Even still she wasn’t completely discarded finishing third of the four, beaten 12.5 lengths by Hollygrove Cha Cha. To me, that looked like the ideal preparation run and La Pinsonniere now comes here to Kempton. First and foremost, La Pinsonniere now gets her favoured good ground and in addition to that the stable won the race last year with Aston Martini, which is eye-catching too.
There are two key factors that Git Maker needs to perform to his best - Marathon trips and testing ground! When he gets these two conditions, he can put in a fantastic performance. Two examples of this are firstly his second in the 2024 Kim Muir where he was beaten by subsequent Cheltenham Gold Cup winner - Inothewayurthinkin! The other is his third in the 2024 renewal of the Scottish National, where he was only beaten 4.5 lengths. Those two runs came off marks of 132 and 133 and he has now fallen down to just 129.
Since those two fantastic runs in the Spring of 2024, he has had mixed results. Two of his runs have been over hurdles as preparation runs for targets over fences, so I’d draw a line straight through them. Sadly he has not had his idea softer conditions in any of the four runs over fences since. Two runs came in the Grand National Trial at Haydock where he finished third and fifth, with ironically the latter being the strong performance, as he was beaten less than four lengths. It was Good to Soft there and the combination of that and the marathon trip allowed him to be competitive at the business end. The other two runs came in the Kim Muir again and the Welsh Grand National and the ground was too quick for him in both.
He now gets his conditions today, so he will have no excuses here. As long as the ground doesn’t dry up, it’s Soft ground at Uttoxeter and he gets a real testing trip here in the 4m 2f distance. Thankfully with Rock My Way turning up here instead of the Ultima, he shoulders top weight of 12st off 138 which means that Git Maker has a much more manageable 11st 5lb. Gavin Sheehan takes the ride as stable jockey for Jamie Snowden and you’ll struggle to find a stronger one that can rally these strong staying types more, as we saw yesterday with Johnny’s Jury in the Albert Bartlett and previously with Hewick in the King George! I think today, he finally gets his day.
Our final leg of the Lucky 15 is Teddy Blue for the Harry Derham yard in the 2m 4.5f Handicap Chase at Kempton. He may have been beaten over ten lengths last time out at Newbury but he really caught my eye. He raced keenly and took it up far too soon under 5lb claimer Freddie Keighley, so it was no surprise to see him weaken up the run in. However, he showed plenty of promise in that run for me to take a good look at him today.
Firstly, the better the ground, the better his chance and the Good to Soft at Newbury has been replaced by Good ground at Kempton today, so that is a plus. Secondly to say he is a tricky ride would be putting it mildly, so it’s no surprise he got the better of Freddie last time and now Paul O’Brien who knows him well is back in the saddle, that’s another positive. He has also never won beyond 2m2f, so the switch from Newbury to a more speed orientated track in Kempton is a plus too, especially as he’s won here before. I also feel it was pretty generous of the handicapper to drop him 1lb for that latest run, seeing his mark drop from 133 to 132.
I also like the fact that there is some pace in the race. There is every chance that Etalon and Blueking d’Oroux could go forward here and if Teddy Blue can get a nice pace to aim at, it will help him to settle down. If he can get a tow into the business end of the race and then Paul is able to unleash his speed down the straight, I think he has every chance of outperforming his odds today. I could certainly see him running into a place and I’d not be surprised to see him win. That said, he is no good thing in here and Califet En Vol and Ryan’s Rocket set a high bar to meet. There isn’t much else I’d fear too much in the field though, unless the cheekpieces work wonders on Bluekind d’Oroux. Is he underestimated at 12/1? Certainly. Can he win? I hope so!
With a Lucky 15 like this, you’re hoping all four selections can run into the place at least as that alone would provide a healthy profit. For some context, a 50p Each Way Lucky 15 would cost you £15.00 but just four places would see us return nearly £100.00. Even the three shortest prices hitting the frame would see us return a profit. The runners do have some questions to ask though: -
All of these unknowns are what makes this sport that we love so fascinating, as nobody knows what will happen. My job is to try and predict what will happen and I’m confident all of these questions can be answered positively by our selections today. I’d be happy with four places and a healthy profit but I do have high hopes for a couple of these, particularly La Pinsonniere and Git Maker. The ultimate dream is to land the full house and the same £15.00 stake referenced earlier would see a return of £6,523.74 if I could pull that off! We can dream!
