It’s Saturday and regular readers will know what that means, it’s time for another Lucky 15. If you’re new around here, I’ll explain! Each Saturday I post a Lucky 15 for races included in the ITV Racing coverage. It’s purely for light entertainment and I still publish my regular betting tip which is already live, so be sure to check that out too!
First time at Betting.co.uk? I’m RacingGav and I've been the resident horse racing expert here since March 2025. I have been punting for much longer though, over 12 years in fact. I have also been posting about horse racing on X since February 2022!
While my core focus is free horse racing tips, I also write about horses and trainers to follow, big race trends and educational guides too. As an example of the latter, my guides cover everything from betting fundamentals, which covers key topics such as bankroll, bet amount and records, right through to more complex topics like the various types of headgear horses might wear when racing.
The majority of bookmakers are offering just three places for all four of our races. However, bet365 are offering four places on three of them, which is exceptional value for our each way Lucky 15. In addition, new customers who bet £10, get £30 in free bets. With bet365 regularly offering the best horse racing odds and extra places, it’s a must have account for all punters!
The average odds for today’s Lucky 15 are 8.25/1. I think all four horses are in that ideal position where there is juice in the odds, and they also have a solid chance in their respective races. There is little point in me selecting horses at the top of the market you could pick out for yourself, or no-hopers for the sake of a fancy price. For a Lucky 15 bet, you want horses hitting the frame at least, and I think these four fit the bill perfectly.
I believe that Gorgeous Mr George has a lot going for him today. He achieved an excellent second place over C&D in September, so we know he handles the track. Not every horse does, so that’s a solid bonus. That run was off a mark of 75 and he is only rated 1lb higher today. He proved that performance was no fluke by following it up with another second place next time out, off a 3lb higher mark.
I believe the drop back in trip and juice in the ground were valid excuses for his poor effort in his final race last season. Similarly, he ran over 7f on his first run back after a 182-day break, which I’m sure he would have needed. His second place here was in a Class 5 (0-75) and this is a Class 4 (0-85) so it is a tougher race, but on the flip side, he only carries 8st 9lb.
Dylan Cunha is a trainer in hot form, with five winners from his last nine runners, and hopefully Gorgeous Mr George can continue that run of success for him. I also like that Ashley Lewis has been booked with his 5lb claim. So while Gorgeous Mr George is 1lb higher than his race here in September, he will effectively be racing off 4lb lower with Ashley’s claim factored in.
Notable Speech has been a star both in the UK and overseas. He has won the 2000 Guineas and the Sussex Stakes in the past, and two Grade 1s over in the US, including the Breeders’ Cup Mile. His fourth at Keeneland was a blot on his copybook but he had excuses. He was held up in last before repeatedly not getting a clear run from over 2f out. I’m sure connections would have been bitterly disappointed with that.
You could make a case for any of the top three in the market currently, and I’m sure a couple of the others won’t be a million miles away either, as there is plenty of depth to this renewal. One who could massively outrun his 40/1 odds is Cicero’s Gift, albeit he may prefer some further juice in the ground to be seen at his best.
However, they all race off level weights here, and on official ratings Notable Speech is between 2lb to 23lb superior to his rivals. It’s also crucial to remember that Modern Games (same connections) was beaten in this race before going on to win the Lockinge Stakes. Hopefully history can repeat itself!
Wise Approach was underwhelming last time out for Charlie Appleby and Godolphin. However, that was his first run for 216 days and he challenged on the wrong side of the track, so it’s easy to forgive. If you go back to his last run before the break, he won the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes (Group 1) here, which is the strongest form in today’s field. With improvement to come following his Ascot run, I fancy Wise Approach to come out on top.
He gives 10lb to Royal Fixation, and considering she’s only rated 4lb inferior, that could be a tough ask. However, it is her first run of the season and I suspect she may need it. Wise Approach also gives away a 5lb penalty to Albert Einstein, but he is rated 7lb superior, so that’s less of an issue. The rest of the field are rated between 93-105.
Charlie Appleby has had a rough start to the Flat season and he has caught a lot of flak as a result. However, he recorded two winners yesterday, Al Hudaiba and Act Of Kindness, so perhaps the tide is turning for him. Back in September last year, Charlie said the plan for Wise Approach would be the Commonwealth Cup, and to be considered a real player, he really needs to win today.
Rebel Path is also my main bet for today. He won this race last year off a mark of 72 and returns to contest it again off a reduced mark of 70. Last year’s jockey, Olivia Haines, is back on board, and still able to claim 7lb, which is a huge bonus. With the original 8st 13lb reduced to just 8st 6lb, Rebel Path should really enjoy himself!
Last year’s win was no fluke performance either, as he backed it up with a second place here at Newmarket last June. Plus he has other strong form in the book already, and has excuses for his last five races.
Conditions look ideal for him today and I hope he can bounce back in style.
We’ve had great success with our Lucky 15s through the spring and hopefully that will continue today. This time, we have selections at prices of 14/1, 9/2, 9/2 and 10/1. At these prices, just four places would see a return of 5x our stake. Meanwhile four winners would return 275x our stake, but let’s not get too carried away.
These four races are not easy to win, but all four horses are sure to give it their best shot. I certainly believe that all of them are capable of running into the frame at least. If they can all do that, I’ll be very happy and anything more is a bonus.
