What a day of racing we have on Saturday. It’s the final day of the 2026 York Ebor Festival meeting at York, and there’s some great racing action elsewhere, including at Chester. I’ve put together a Lucky 15 covering both meetings, and I think I’ve found some excellent value.
For those new to my content here, most of my articles are free horse racing tips. You’ll find a mix of daily betting tips, and antepost selections, plus a Lucky 15 every Saturday..
In terms of antepost tips, be sure to check out my early selection for the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase at the 2027 Cheltenham Festival, where there’s a forgotten horse who is still available at fantastic odds of 50/1.
At the time of writing, the best horse racing odds for today’s Lucky 15 are available at William Hill with combined odds of 2,979/1. In addition, William Hill is paying 4, 4, 5, and 3 places paid respectively. Lastly, if you sign up and bet £10, you’ll get £30 of free bets. What more could you ask for?
Although these Lucky 15 bets are largely for entertainment, I still hunt for value, and I think I’ve achieved it with today’s four horses. Just four places in a Lucky 15 can bring a decent return, even if it’s not quite as sexy as four winners. In the rest of this article, I’ll explain why I’ve picked these four horses today.
Persica is our first Lucky 15 candidate and he runs in the Group 3 Strensall Stakes. If you asked me to describe his ideal conditions, I’d say three elements for certain:
Here, he gets all three, as well as receiving 3lb from Damysus, who is the current market favourite. I think Persica can get our Lucky 15 party started, and he has every chance of being involved at the finish.
Yanifer’s Chester form reads 182315771 off marks of 73, 79, 79, 88, 89, 93, 93, 92, and 92, respectively. That’s three wins and two places from just nine runs here, which is a great strike rate. He also seems to do well in August too, having achieved three wins from seven August runs since the start of his career, and he seems pretty versatile in terms of going too.
His latest win, off a mark of 92, was over C&D, in last year’s renewal of this same race. Returning today off a 4lb lower mark, he could easily repeat the feat. Last year he adopted front running tactics, and made all from stall eight, and we could see history repeating itself, as he goes from stall seven this time.
A progressive horse is a dangerous horse, and Galilean Quality certainly fits that description. During his eight race career his figures have been going in the right direction, with RPRs of 64, 68, 78, 87, 88, 91, 91, and 98. He was gelded in November 2025 as a two-year-old, and when he returned the following year he had clearly matured, which coil explain the notable jump from an RPR of 78 to 87.
He caught my attention again at Royal Ascot. He stayed on well in a race which clearly didn’t suit hold up horses, and was beaten by four lengths into sixth place. Next time out, at Ascot again, he stepped up 1m 6f for the first time, and won by half a length. He was given a 4lb rise, going up from a mark of 87 to 91, which clearly underestimates his ability and progression, so I’m siding with him at a lovely price of 14/1.
In the Chester Stakes (Listed Race) Lazy Griff looks to be a class above the rest of the field. He was a Group 3 winner in Chantilly, before chasing home Lambourn in the Chester Vase, and then in the Betfred Derby. He also managed an excellent third behind the same rival in the Irish Derby.
Lazy Griff performed solidly in both of his 2m races this season, winning one, and placing third in the other. He flopped in the Goodwood Cup Stakes last time, but that was a messy race and I find it easy to forgive. Dropping significantly in class and returning to Chester, I think he can bounce back to winning ways, and book his ticket for the Irish St Leger, which looks tailor made for him.
I think all four of these horses have a fantastic chance in their respective races but they do have questions to answer:
I’m confident that our four horses can answer these questions, and each will give us a great run for our money. If they can all finish in the frame, I’ll be happy, but I think we have some winners on our hands too!
