Following on from my profitable first selection, where New Order placed for us at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day, at an advised price of 9/1, today, we have my first Lucky 15 bet for 2026! Although I usually go for an each way option, as there are only a limited number of runners in the races covered by ITV Racing this weekend, I have opted for a win only Lucky 15 instead.
Should you happen to be discovering my content for the first time, I’m Gav, better known as RacingGav here and on X. For context, I have been providing horse racing tips for many years on social media. But in January 2024, I decided to make my full time career, and duly launched my own Discord server (details at the bottom of this article). A little later, in March 2025 to be exact, I also became the resident horse racing expert for Betting.co.uk.
Within my role here, I mostly focus on providing free horse racing tips, either on the day the race takes place, or antepost. However, some of my articles each week cover topics beyond tipping, as I also publish educational guides, big race trends and more.
At the time of writing, bet365 are by far offering the best horse racing odds for today’s Lucky 15, with combined odds of 213.5/1. In addition to those fantastic odds, bet365 also has a superb sign up offer. As a new customer, if you bet £10, you’ll get £30 of free bets. This bookmaker consistently provides a great service, so if you don’t already have an account , I highly recommend that you sign up.
All except one of the Lucky 15s I have put up to date have been tipped as each way plays, typically bringing you four selections at bigger prices. However, the ITV racing available at Sandown and Wincanton today, where the fields are very small, leads me to think that a win only option is the way to go this time.
All Thoroughbred horses have a common birthday of 1st January. So, to all intents and purposes every racehorse technically became a year older two days ago, regardless of its actual date of birth. With Triple Trade now a 10-year-old, he is eligible to enter Veterans’ races. Considering he was able to win against younger legs on his penultimate start, he could well take some beating in older company.
Although it was just over two years ago now, Triple Trade’s career-best performance came when winning over 2m 3f on Good ground at Ascot. That win was off a mark of 135, and on that form, he could still have plenty in hand off a mark of 128. Particularly so as he steps up in trip from around 2m t to 2m 4f this time. In terms of the opposition, Jet Plane would prefer softer ground, Can You Call is up 7lb for winning last time, Minella Trump and Numitor are both 12 years old now, and Hurricane Bay is better suited to sharper/flatter tracks. This race looks winnable for Triple Trade!
The Listed Mares’ Hurdle at Sandown looks to have three worthy contenders based on ratings, namely Jubilee Alpha (140) That’ll Do Moss (138) and Nurse Susan (134). Considering Jubilee Alpha has to give 2lb to those two rivals, she is identically matched with That’ll Do Moss, and has 4lb in hand against Nurse Susan. However, That’ll Do Moss would prefer softer ground, so that swings this race in favour of Jubilee Alpha.
Nurse Susan finished nearly eight lengths ahead of Jubilee Alpha last time out at Cheltenham. However, there are a couple of reasons why that form can be reversed here. Firstly, Jubilee Alpha was giving Nurse Susan a stone (14lb) of weight that day, but only gives her 2lb now, so she is 12lb better off. In addition, Jubilee Alpha carried a full 12st at Cheltenham, which is a big ask for most mares, and she has a much more manageable 11st 6lb this time. In terms of the other runners in the lineup, Sunset Marquesa (125), Shantwopointfive (124) and Good Luck Charm (115) they all have a lot to find on ratings, and are most likely just hoping to run into a place for some Black Type.
For the third leg of our Lucky 15, we switch across to Wincanton for the 2m 5.5f Handicap Hurdle at 14:40. For this one, I’ve sided with Maldini Milano for the Paul Nicholls stable, with Freddie Gingell in the saddle. Maldini Milano impressed me last time when winning well at Plumpton, powering through the winning line in good style. If you look back at that form, the horse in second place, Daylatedollarshort, and the third placer, General Briar, have both won since, so that form has been nicely franked.
Switching to Handicap company for the first time, there could be a lot more to come from Maldini Milano off a mark of 114. Off just 1lb higher, the one that I would fear the most is Got A Dream. He is 2 from 2 for Nicky Martin this season, since switching to Handicap company, and he strikes me as the type who only does just enough. These types of horses are notoriously tricky for the handicapper to assess, and they often stay ahead, running up a sequence of wins. However, up 13lb for his two wins, the handicapper may finally have Got A Dream here, so I’m hoping Maldini Milano has more improvement to come.
Our final horse for today’s Lucky 15 is All In You for the Warren Greatrex stable. He was hugely eye-catching on his stable debut and seasonal reappearance last time out at Ascot. He was held up in rear and to my eye, he looked to be ridden as if the run was a stepping stone to something else. The fact that he was sent off at 12/1 suggests the same.
Jumping the second last at Ascot, All In You was only in ninth, but he caught my attention a bit later on. He was still in seventh after putting in an extra stride at the last, but he rallied incredibly powerfully, and was denied by just a head at the line by Dance And Glance. If he had been stoked up sooner, and/or if he met the last on a better stride, he would have won. Considering that was his stable debut, and his first run for 273 days, I can only assume he will come forward for that run, in terms of both fitness and experience. I think the 4lb rise from 118 to 122 may well underestimate him, and he looks to have a massive chance.
A Lucky 15 is made up of 15 separate bets as the name suggests: four singles, six doubles, four trebles and a four fold, to be precise. As a result, we don’t need all of the horses to win to enjoy a return. In fact, at the prices quoted - 7/2, 6/5, 4/1 and 10/3 - we only need two of the horses to win to see a return. Even if the two horses with the shortest odds win, it would still see us in profit! But of course, the more the merrier in terms of winners, and we can always dream of a full house…
