This week to date has all been about the 2026 Cheltenham Festival and antepost picks for the Champion Hurdle, the Champion Chase, and the Stayers' Hurdle. We now make the switch back to my typical Saturday format, and first up I have a Lucky 15 for today’s ITV Racing action at Sandown and Wolverhampton!
If you’ve just come across my content for the first time, I’m RacingGav and I’m the resident horse racing expert at Betting.co.uk. Part of my role here means I produce several articles per week, which are generally free horse racing tips. They might be daily betting tips, antepost picks, or one like this where I put together a Lucky 15 for you. Beyond those, you’ll find other types of content like educational guides and big race trends. My main betting tip for today will be live shortly, so keep your eyes peeled for that too.
At the time of writing, the best horse racing odds of 10,879/1 for my Lucky 15 are available at bet365. To give some context, the rest of the market varies between 5,800/1 and 8,639/1. In addition to the best odds, bet365 also have a great sign up offer for new customers. If you bet £10, you’ll get £30 of free bets. With Cheltenham looming, it’s worth checking out if you don’t already have an account.
I think all four of these horses have a great chance of finishing in the places, and with the structure of an each way Lucky 15 bet, the places would be enough to see us generate a healthy return. In the following sections, I’ll break down my reasons for selecting these four horses.
Draco Malfoy is trained by Kim Bailey & Mat Nicholls, and owned by Sir F Brooke & Sir R Pilkington, so he shares the same owners as Ultima Handicap Chase winner, Chianti Classico. Sadly, the latter had his career cut short through injury, and it would be great to see Draco Malfoy step into his shoes.
Draco Malfoy is a former PTP winner. He was sold for €140,000 within days of his win, and he screams Chaser in the making so it was no surprise to see him 0/3 in Bumpers. However, he has progressed enormously over Hurdles, with form figures of 121. His sole defeat came at the expense of Get On George at Doncaster, in a race thatturned into a dash for the line. With just three runs over Hurdles, he’s unexposed, and I think there he has plenty more to come.
A big field and a strong pace to aim at will suit him perfectly, and I think he is well-handicapped off a mark of 125. From what I can see, the stable has only had one runner in the last 10 renewals of this race, which was The Kemble Brewery, who promised to be very smart. Let's just say I don’t think the yard are sending Draco Malfoy here for a day out, they must believe he has a real chance. At 16/1 with five places on offer, he looks a value bet to me.
Back in 2024, I tipped the 1-2 in the Imperial Cup, with Go Dante winning for the Olly Murphy yard, and Faivoir finishing a nose behind him for the Dan Skelton stable. Then in 2025, I landed on Wreckless Eric for the Jonjo & A J O’Neill team. While I respected Go Dante last year, I was worried that the ground would be too quick for him, although he ultimately proved me wrong.
As for Wreckless Eric, he travelled supremely well behind a wall of horses, but needed a gap. He was hampered two out by the horse in front of him, and had to veer around him, thus losing momentum. It was a similar story at the last, where he was short of room and hit the hurdle. He powered on coming down the home straight, but it was just slightly too late, and he was beaten by half a length at the line. Given a clear run this time, I think he'll win.
His four runs since haven't been great but he has excuses. At Aintree and Kempton, he was running over intermediate trips and didn’t enjoy them. Ascot was his seasonal reappearance, and he clearly needed the run. Last time out at Newbury, it was Heavy ground, which he didn't enjoy. But today he now returns to ideal conditions: a fast 2m Handicap Hurdle, with plenty of cover. He is also 3lb lower than last year, and he wears first time cheekpieces. Everything looks in order for a big run here, and hopefully he can get his nose in fron this time.
This time last year, Marshman was in fantastic form. He won a valuable Handicap at Newcastle off 102, and followed it up with a Listed win at Lingfield, where he produced a sensational RPR of 115, defeating horses rated 111, 110, 111 and 107. He was then just half a length away from another Listed win at Southwell. He maintained a high level of form when third on his next two starts, but looked in need of a break when he ran below par at York in May.
After a 198 day break, he returned at Southwell, but blew the start, and was up against it, easpecially as he had just returned from a lengthy absence. He did stay on, but his race was lost at the start. After a further break of 64 days, it was a similar story last time out at Lingfield, where he reared as the stalls opened, but once agin he stayed on strongly at the finish. He now steps up to 7f for the first time, and I think this could really suit him judging on how he has shaped the last twice, and the fact he won over a stiff 6f at Newcastle previously.
Realistically, he needs to break better, but at least over this longer trip, he will have more time to make up lost ground if he needs to. Off his current mark of 107, he is the second highest rated runner in the field, and off his mark from this time last year of 110, he’d be the highest rated. He wasn’t all that far behind Cool Hoof Luke last time, despite blowing the start and the price difference between 6/4 and 7/1 looks far too big to me. The value sits with Marshman here, and he looks a great each way bet!
Welcome to Cartries won his Irish PTP by an incredible margin of 16 lengths. Connections wasted no time running him in Bumpers, they sent him straight over Hurdles. Considering he looked a Chaser in the making, he did pretty well over, with form figures of 2128, with his latest second place being in the Grade 2 River Don Novices’ Hurdle at Doncaster.
He switched to fences for the 2024/25 season, and he was thrown in at the deep end in the Grade 2 Esher Novices’ Chase at Sandown, and the Grae 1 Kauto Star Novices’ Chase at Kempton. Those races were clearly to give him experience, safe in the knowledge that he’d likely be beaten, but would retain his Novice status. A further move to protect his Novice status saw him switched him back to Hurdles for his final run of that campaign.
Welcome to Cartries didn’t fire at Cheltenham on his first start this season, but he looked in need of the run. Second time out here at Sandown he just denied New Order, who has run several good races in defeat since. He looked like he had plenty of progression to come, so many would have been disappointed by his defeat at Ascot, but I’d say that was due to the soft ground. Returning to Sandown and better ground, I think he can kick on, and he could prove to be a good deal better than his current mark of 134. Due to pulling up on his latest run, I think he is overpriced at 7/1.
We have some tasty prices here, with combined odds across the four horses of 10,879/1! At the prices quoted, just four places would see us return over 7.5x our stake. However, four winners would see us land a return in excess of 542x our stake. That is of course dreamland but you have to be in it to win it as they say.
Three of my four selections all have a fantastic each way chance, and I wouldn't be surprised at all to see any of them winning their respective races. That said, the Imperial Cup is no easy race to win, so Wreckless Eric will need to bring his A game, and unlike last year, he will need some luck in-running.
As his price suggests, the longshot is Draco Malfoy. Nobody can tip a horse in the EBF Final with real confidence, as it’s an 18-runner field of Novice Handicappers, with the majority open to tons of improvement. Plus, multiple horses in the race will have been laid out for it. That said, Draco Malfoy is very appealing with a 16/1 price tag, and with six places on offer, he’s well worth including in this Lucky 15. When others start to struggle, I think he could be powering up the Sandown hill. That said, anything he does over Hurdles will be a bonus, as he looks set to be an exciting Novice Chaser next season!
