We had a superb crack at the Lucky 15 last Saturday with Erzindjan and Mirsky winning at 17/2 and 15/2 respectively, seeing us go two from two. Sadly, things didn't continue in the same vein with Beckford’s Folly unplaced, and Distant Storm coming third in the 2000 Guineas. With two winners and one place, last week's Lucky 15 bet returned over 4.5x the original satke, which was a fantastic result. We keep coming close to landing a full house, and hopefully today will be the day!
I’m RacingGav and I’m the resident horse racing expert here at Betting.co.uk. I have been in this role since March 2025 but I have been punting and tipping for much longer. I started when I was 18 (officially) and now I’m past 30, so I have over 12 years of experience under my belt. I started taking it more seriously in February 2022 when I launched the @RacingGav account on X.
My primary role here is to provide free betting tips, and you’ll find daily tips, antepost picks, and a Lucky 15 every Saturday. You may simply be interested in the betting tips and nothing further. But I’d just like to let you know about the other articles I publish. There are monthly pieces like trainers and horses to follow, and when there are big races, I produce trends articles. I also publish educational guides to help you level up your knowledge of this great sport.
Sometimes it isn’t the best horse racing odds that influence my choice of bookmaker, and that’s the case here. The reason I’m picking bet365 today is their place terms, as they are paying out on extra places for two of our Lucky 15 races. The value doesn’t stop there either, as a new customer, if you sign up and bet £10, you’ll get £30 in free bets. Don’t forget to check this out.
As a general rule, my Lucky 15 selections are all at each way prices. But today I’ve switched things up with two at short prices, who both look rock solid, and two at double figure prices. Keep reading as I break down the case for each of them.
Morcar is actually my main betting tip for today as he won this race last year. He returns off the same mark and I think he can win the race again. He has C&D form with figures of 3311, and the going is in his favour. Lingfield is a track where a low draw is the ideal, and he has secured on stall two. Finally, he had wind surgery before returning from his winter break and second time out after that type of surgery is usually the time to catch them.
Tellherthename is a really sore subject for me and my long-term readers. Back on 1 April 2026, I tipped Tellherthename antepost to win the Scottish Champion Hurdle on 18 April 2026. He was backed in from 10/1 to favourite, so we achieved plenty of value. However, he is a horse that needs decent ground and they had a downpour at Ayr ahead of the race, to the point where the going ended up Heavy, and Dan Skelton made the decision to remove the horse from the race. Today he runs in the Swinton Handicap Hurdle, my original logic behind the bet remains the same.
Our third leg is Great Acclaim, who runs in the Victoria Cup for Eve Johnson-Houghton. Great Acclaim ran a cracker at Haydock over this 7f trip, which was his second race this season. The handicapper has generously left him alone, and he comes here today off the same mark of 98. Eve now takes this opportunity to try a visor on Great Acclaim for the first time.
To date, Great Acclaim has had two runs over C&D and whilehe didn’t win either , he produced RPR figures of 105 and 104. Those two runs were both off a mark of 98 and those form lines must give him every chance. Interestingly, Great Acclaim’s two runs over C&D were on Good to Soft, and Soft going, but his last run at Haydock showed his versatility, as it was Good to Firm going hat day, and he ran a cracker.
Judging from the racing yesterday, it looks high numbers will have an advantage over those drawn lower for this year’s Victoria Cup. That said, nothing is guaranteed, and Great Acclaim's draw in stall 12 is around the middle, si will give Charles Bishop options. If Great Acclaim can build further on that Haydock run, he must hold an excellent chance, and he looks great each way value to me.!
My final selection is Valedictory in the 1m 4f Handicap at Ascot. This John & Thady Gosden-trained four-year-old gelding has had a very start stop career. He was third on debut in September 2024 but subsequently spent 214 days off the track. He was then fourth on his second start, before spending another 176 days off the track, during which time he was gelded. On his third start, he won by nearly five lengths.
After a further break of 191 days, he returned at Newbury over 1m2f and ran second, beaten just a neck at the line and producing a career best RPR of 92. He raced prominently that day but was ridden, looking outpaced 2f out. However, when he switched right he really rallied inside the final furlong to take second near the finish. This is the first time he has strung two runs together but you would expect him to improve for having a recent run. Furthermore, they step up in trip which, on the evidence of him being outpaced before staying on powerfully, looks to be the right move.
What also interests me about that latest run at Newbury is that the winner, Rathgar, won again just ten days later off a 4lb higher mark, to frank the form. With William Buick riding at Lingfield, the door has opened for Billy Loughnane to take the ride.
As touched upon already, we have four horses in this Lucky 15 with two at shorter prices (11/4 and 15/8). Realistically these two should hold every chance of winning but should certainly be finishing in the first four of their respective races. Whilst they do not provide value backing them individually each way, they make much more impact across the doubles, trebles and four fold here.
The other two runners come at double figure prices (10/1 and 12/1). You can make a rock solid case for both of these runners and I could easily see them running into the places for us. If all four horses could run into a place, this bet would return over 3.5x the outlay. As an example, a 50p Each Way Lucky 15 would return £52.80.
Of course though, we’re dreaming of the big win, with a full house of four winners. In that case, the same 50p Each Way Lucky 15 would return £1,598.42 and that would be sensational! We have knocked on the door a few times now and as they say, if you don’t buy a ticket, you won’t win the raffle.
Our bookmaker partners have a whole plethora of betting offers for horse racing. However, we have compiled five of the best that are currently available. With such fantastic value on offer, you really should check the offers out!
