Today’s article is all about the bet builder for horse racing recently released by William Hill. In this guide I’ll explain what a bet builder is, the horse racing markets that are available to use, and how to place your bet.
Incidentally, if you’re new to my content, I’m RacingGav and I’m the resident horse racing expert here at Betting.co.uk. The role sees me produce several articles each week, which are predominantly free horse racing tips. However, I also produce other types of content including big race trends and educational guides like this one!
There’s always something new to learn about betting on horse racing, and my articles covering Pool Betting and The Tote and Each Way Betting both make a great starting point.
Whilst this article is about the fantastic Bet Builder that’s now available at William Hill, that’s not the only reason to open an account with them. You’ll often find the best odds for horse racing at William Hill, and they also have a superb sign up offer for new customers. If you bet £10, you’ll get £40 in free bets. What’s not to like here!
Bet builders have always been popular, especially with football punters. However, William Hill has decided to introduce them to horse racing and I’m all for it! Whether you're a casual punter or a professional, the bet builder is for everyone. It can either be used for a bit of fun, but also as a serious betting tool.
In simple terms, a bet builder is a way to combine multiple selections for a single event into one single bet. For football fans, this may be for X team to win, Y player to score, and Z amount of corners. Now horse racing fans can enjoy this type of bet too. Rather than placing multiple bets for a single race, you can combine them into one. The benefit is that the odds for each selection are multiplied, meaning your potential return could increase considerably.
The William Hill bet builder is ideal for the casual punter who is looking for entertainment, and something a bit different to a standard accumulator bet. However, it can also be used by professional punters who have spent time breaking down a particular race, and subsequently have a strong opinion about several different horses in the field.
There’s a decent selection of markets available to use for the William Hill horse racing bet builder, which are:
As an example, you could have a strong opinion about the potential winner of a race. You might also believe that if that horse wasn’t running, you would know which horse would win. Perhaps you think that one of the big outsiders could run into the first four.
In this scenario, your bet builder would include the first horse to win, the second horse to win (without the first horse) and your final horse to finish in the first four. The odds of all three possible events will then be combined into one bet for you.
Using the William Hill bet builder is really easy. As always, you can bet with William Hill on your desktop, or via their mobile app. Once you’ve found the race you want to bet on, you will also see the bet builder tab or button.
Once you are in the bet builder, you can start making your selections. As you add more legs, the combined odds are automatically updated. When you’re happy with your selections, and the overall odds offered, you can enter your stake and place the bet.
It is worth noting that not every race will have the bet builder option available. For example, races with only a handful of runners may not show the bet builder option due to market limitations. However, the feature is available for most major race days and festivals, especially those which are televised.
There are various ways to use the William Hill bet builder effectively and it will largely be a case of trying it out to find what works for you. Personally, I find it useful when I want to bump up the price of a horse that’s near the top of the market. Something simple, like adding another horse to finish in the X number of places behind it, can increase the odds.
As with accumulators, you want to add selections to increase the odds, but you also need to keep it realistic. Sure, it looks great if your friend lands an eleven fold accumulator on the weekend, but wins like that are very few and far between. When placing a bet builder you need to make well informed and calculated decisions. The sweet spot is likely to be around three to five legs, to provide decent odds, but also a realistic chance of it happening. Huge odds are appealing, but there’s no return unless all of the selections you make are spot on.
It’s also worth mentioning that there’s nothing stopping you from playing more than one bet builder for the same race. For example, you could always do a ‘safe’ version with two to three legs you are very confident about, then create another bet builder with the same number of legs, but include a couple of less likely outcomes to add a little spice!
Whilst it’s well worth opening an account with William Hill for their bet builder, and their generous welcome bonus, there are many bookmakers out there with equally fantastic free bet offers for horse racing. Below you can see some of the best currently available, and they are all well worth looking into.
