I published a couple of Trainers to Follow articles a few months ago and they were well received. So, I’m bringing them back as part of my schedule for each month, starting with June 2026. In these articles, I dive through statistics and highlight the trainers I think are worth following for the month ahead. Just note that I’m only providing the data, it’s entirely up to you how you use it.

I expect to see him running in the Summer Cup at Uttoxeter towards the end of the month, and assuming he does, I think he has a great chance of winning! His trainer won the race last year and has followed the same campaign route with a different contender for this year.

The top 50 UK trainers have been analysed!
This is no half-hearted job, I have analysed the top 50 UK trainers, looking at how they have performed in the month of June during 2023, 2024 and 2025. This will give us a decent idea of which ones we should all potentially be following in 2026. Some consistently produce profits at this time of year, some had a great June in 2025 and others catch my eye for different reasons. In the remainder of the article, I break it all down for you, so make sure you read on!
Consistent trainers to follow in June 2026
For the last three years three trainers have produced a profit to £1 level stakes across all of their runners in the month of June in each Therefore, they clearly do something right at this time of the year and are worth keeping an eye on in June 2026.

Walker:
- 2023 - 15 winners from 71 runners (21% strike rate) and profit of +£18.78 to £1 level stakes
- 2024 - 9 winners from 51 runners (18% strike rate) and a profit of +£11.32 to £1 level stakes
- 2025 - 6 winners from 51 runners (12% strike rate) and a profit of +£9.03 to £1 level stakes
#2 Jack Channon:
- 2023 - 4 winners from 46 runners (9% strike rate) and a profit of +£5.20 to £1 level stakes
- 2024 - 8 winners from 44 runners (18% strike rate) and a profit of +£14.58 to £1 level stakes
- 2025 - 14 winners from 49 runners (29% strike rate)and a profit of +£15.53 to £1 level stakes

Michael Appleby:
- 2023 - 13 winners from 87 runners (15% strike rate) and a profit of +£0.92 to £1 level stakes
- 2024 - 10 winners from 83 runners (12% strike rate) and a profit of +£23.50 to £1 level stakes
- 2025 - 8 winners from 64 runners (13% strike rate) and a profit of +£16.58 to £1 level stakes
Of the three above, Jack Channon is particularly eye-catching. Year on year, he is producing more winners, with a stronger strike rate, and a bigger profit to £1 level stakes!
Trainers who had a fantastic June in 2025
Of the 50 trainers analysed, four produced a strike rate in excess of 20%, and a double-figure level stakes profit from their June 2025 runners.
Those four are as follows:
- Andrew Balding
- 32 winners from 143 runners (22% strike rate) and a profit of +£31.20 to £1 level stakes
- Charlie Johnson
- 30 winners from 129 runners (23% strike rate) and a profit of +£19.40 to £1 level stakes
- Stuart Williams
- 10 winners from 41 runners (24% strike rate) and a profit of +£54.30 to £1 level stakes
- Jonathan Portman
- 10 winners from 44 runners (23% strike rate) and a profit of +£43.38 to £1 level stakes
The key thing about the four trainers above, compared to those listed in the previous section, is that these reflect one-off performances, rather than consistently producing these figures over a number of years.
There are also variables, like Charlie Johnson, who had a lesser year in 2024, but a strong 2023. In 2023, he produced 34 winners from 191 runners (18% strike rate), showing a profit of +£7.91 to £1 level stakes.
Which other trainers should you be watching in June 2026?
When analysing the data, two other trainers stood out, namely Kevin Ryan and George Boughey. Kevin Ryan produced eye-catching £1 level stake profits of +£37.00 in June 2023, and +£49.96 in June 2024. The reason he didn’t make the cut were his terrible results from June 2025, when his his runners produced a loss of -£29.75. It wil be interesting to see if he bounces back to the highs of 2023 and 2024, or has another poor year like last year.
Secondly, we have George Boughey. He didn’t meet the criteria for three profitable years in a row, but he recorded a strong strike rate and achieved a moderate profit to £1 level stakes over the last two years. In 2024, he had 24 winners from 96 runners (25% strike rate) with +£11.90 profit to £1 level stakes. Then in 2025 he had 14 winners from 70 runners (20% strike rate), with a profit of +£0.37. So he does seem to get his horses firing at this time of year, but the profit in 2025 was nothing to write home about.
My wildcard trainer to follow in June and onwards
Finally, I have one last trainer I want to mention, but this one has no background statistics to refer to, as he was only granted his full trainers’ licence last month. The trainer in question is Gihan Arnolda and at the time of writing, he has only had five horses run under his name.
From the first two, I thought Gihan was unlucky not to start his training career with a winner at Yarmouth. Stenmark didn’t get a kind passage through his race, and only managed to place third. Damascus Steel also ran a solid race at Thirsk a few days later, where he came in sixth, beaten by five lengths after being sent off at 28/1.
Gihan was a jockey for a number of years until a fall, ironically at Yarmouth, ended his career. He has since spent time with established trainers, including Roger Varian and Chris Wall, but most recently he was assistant trainer to Denis Quinn.
He is believed to be the first black trainer in Britain and clearly intends to leverage that, judging from the
“Black Magic”
brand name proudly displayed on his stable rugs and saddle cloths. The whispers I’m hearing are that he knows the time of day, and he is starting off with a solid team of 18 horses. Hopefully he can hit the ground running, and if you haven’t heard of him yet, you could hear plenty more in the years to come.
Which trainers will you follow in June 2026?
The number one for me is Jack Channon. Not only has he performed consistently in June for the last three years, he has done so with ever-increasing numbers in terms of strike rate and profitability. Hopefully he can continue that momentum in his fourth season, and have a fantastic June 2026. He has already started nicely with wins in the Spring Mile and the Lincoln.
Andrew Balding and Charlie Johnson catch attention due to their sheer volume of winners, with both averaging a winner a day, or better, in June 2025. In that month alone, they produced hefty profits of +£31.20 and +£19.40 to £1 level stakes, respectively. The negative is that those are not consistent numbers, as neither produced those sorts of figures in 2023 or 2024. So, it’s a matter of whether they can back it up this year, or if last year’s achievements were isolated.
I’d also be keen to keep an eye on Gihan Arnolda. In terms of betting, it’s always good to be the underdog. With only a handful of runners so far, he isn’t well known at this stage, and it’s likely his runners will be underestimated in the market. Clearly he has plenty of experience with horses and has solid support from his current owners. It feels like it wasn’t long ago that I was saying something very similar about Dylan Cunha, and he’s absolutely flying now.
