Thousands of boxing fans worldwide will be spending ridiculous amounts of money on PPV this Saturday as the long-awaited bout between Jake Paul and Anderson Silva takes place. The fight goes underway at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona and it gives YouTuber Jake Paul another chance to prove that he’s a real boxer.
With a nickname like Problem Child, Paul has already caused a big upset in the boxing world. His pre-fight record stands at 5-0 including four knockouts, but it remains to be seen how he’ll fare against quality opposition.
Anderson Silva is currently the UFC Middleweight Champion and the Brazilian star will clearly be keen to make light work of one of the most mocked men in the boxing community. So who are the best UFC bookmakers backing to win this fascinating bout?
By booking a fight with Silva, Paul has certainly picked the toughest opponent of his brief career so far. The YouTuber has previously managed to pick fairly mediocre opponents but somehow made them seem like credible fighters. After all, few people would have tipped the likes of Ben Askren to be a world-beater. The same is true of Tyron Woodley who was touted as a fearsome slugger but turned out to be a fairly weak one-trick pony.
While there is some weight to the accusation that Silva is another MMA star who doesn’t really get the dynamics of boxing, the fact is that the Brazilian star has an explosive punching power and could make light work of Paul. After all, Silva has competed in pro boxing before and has aimed to base his fighting style on the likes of Muhammad Ali.
There’s further proof of this in the fact that Silva managed to defeat Julio Cesar Chavez Jr after over a decade away from the boxing ring. While Paul has a serviceable jab at best, Silva has a proven track record in superior footwork and feints that could see him running rings around the YouTuber.
It’s also worth noting that there’s a big size difference between the two fighters. In the past, we’ve seen Paul weighing in at around the 190 pounds mark while Silva usually clocks in higher. When coupled with his greater height and reach, the Brazilian could easily dwarf his adversary in the ring.
Of course, we’re not completely dismissing Paul. After all, anyone who saw his sixth round knockout in the rematch against Woodley will know that he can fight. If Paul manages to wear down Silva after a few rounds, then there’s every chance that he could cause a few surprises. This is especially true as Silva is 47 years old compared to the relatively youthful 25-year old YouTuber.
Despite this, there is no doubting that Silva is a higher calibre opponent for the social media star. Paul’s previous bouts have been something of a money-grabbing operation for his opponents, but Silva has already said that he doesn’t need the money. The Brazilian is clearly keen to preserve his reputation and to show his natural ability to box.
All of which sets the scene for what could be a potentially bruising encounter for the so-called Problem Child this weekend. So can the YouTuber star continue his unlikely career in the world of boxing or will Silva cut him short with a devastating punch? Only one way to find out and that’s to grab the latest betting offers and promotions, fire up your PPV and enjoy one of the strangest bouts of the year!
