  • Newcastle United have signed a multi-year deal with BetMGM
  • UK-licensed operator to remain Newcastle’s official betting sponsor
  • Fan favourite experiences returning to St. James’ Park

Newcastle United have continued their ties with BetMGM by agreeing to a new multi-year deal. While no financial terms were disclosed, it represents another thrilling chapter for both parties.

It builds on a partnership first established in 2023 when BetMGM, a UK-licensed operator, launched in the country and sought to gain early visibility. More pertinently, it falls within the new betting sponsorship parameters introduced by the Premier League.

Sponsorship concerns shelved for now

At the start of the 2026/27 campaign, the Premier League implemented a ban prohibiting clubs from promoting United Kingdom Gambling Commission (UKGC) approved gambling sponsors on the front of shirts.

While there have been a flurry of sleeve and training kit deals struck with licensed sites over the past few months, clubs are moving away from gambling companies for front-of-shirt prominence.

Although Newcastle’s arrangement with BetMGM complies with current regulations, they have had previous when it comes to collaborating with unlicensed betting sites. And they found themselves on a collision course with Entain earlier this week.

The Coral and Ladbrokes owner wrote a letter to the Magpies, expressing their disgruntlement over their affiliation with 8xBet, urging them to terminate their deal. 8xBet serves as Newcastle’s official Asia partner, but Entain wants to see arrangements with unlicensed betting companies rooted out.

Before that, Newcastle collaborated with another rogue operator, Fun88, as its front-of-shirt sponsor between 2017 and 2023. With the Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) recently concluding consultations over potentially banning unlicensed gambling sponsorships in the Premier League, any immediate concerns over Newcastle have been pushed to one side.

BetMGM bringing the energy

With BetMGM, there is always plenty of razzmatazz. Apart from permeating its influence in the UK as the official Premier League darts sponsor, BetMGM is targeting creating more meaningful matchday experiences for Newcastle supporters.

Apart from the gambling brand being dotted around LED advertising boards, BetMGM intends to bring its signature energy to Newcastle with the return of the fan favourite BetMGM Half-Time Challenge. Launched in time for the next home league game against Hull City on September 19, lucky supporters can win a trip to Las Vegas.

Discussing the significance of the deal, Andy Wright, LeoVegas Group Managing Director for UK and Ireland (UK&I), said:

“Newcastle United’s ambition matches our own, and that shared drive is what’s made the partnership so natural from the start. Supporters have fully embraced the BetMGM brand, and moments like the Half-Time challenge is exactly why we wanted to extend our commitment.

“As we continue to grow, partnering with a club that shares our appetite to get better every year is exactly where we want to be — and we’re looking forward to bringing even more of that signature Las Vegas entry to St. James’ Park this season and beyond.”

In it for the long haul

While the subject of betting sponsorship has become a thorny issue, Newcastle remain buoyed by their partnership with BetMGM. Seemingly, it reflects the club’s ambition to maintain partnership with brands sharing their long-term vision.

Explaining the significance of the deal, Newcastle’s Chief Revenue Officer, Dave O’Connor, said:

“Our partnership with BetMGM has become a real favourite amongst our supporters over the last three seasons, consistently delivering memorable, fan-first experiences and generating viral moments that have driven our marketing ambitions.

“Renewing our partnership is testament to the strong trust and shared success we’ve built together. It reinforces our relentless ambition to build a powerful, global commercial portfolio, partnering with best-in-class brands across diverse sectors.”
