My two main betting tips for the BMW Championship are live now, so we’ll move on to my longshots for the tournament next. Last week we had some success, with Dan Brown finishing in the places for us at a whopping 125/1. And this week I have another pair of big-priced selections that are definitely going under the radar.
I’ve talked about the course in detail in my other article, but here is a quick recap for you anyway. Strokes gained from tee to green is the most useful stat to consider this week, but there are other areas which are important too, and having a good short game is one of them. The specific area to focus on is players who scramble well. That’s because getting up and down around the Wentworth greens can be tricky, and if you are good at it, you won't lose shots to the field.
With a huge 10 places on offer for the BMW Championship Coral is my bookie choice for this week’s longshots. No account? No problem! You can also take advantage of their new customer offer. Bet £5, and you’ll get £20 in free bets. What better way to make the most of my longshot tips.
My first longshot for this week is Callum Shinkwin, who is a seriously impressive golfer on his day and plays very well at tough courses. You might not have heard too much about him this year, but that may just change around Wentworth. Having observed his seventh place finish in this tournament last year, I can easily see him backing it up with four solid rounds again this time.
That performance was no fluke for Callum Shinkwin, he is already a two-time DP World Tour winner, and despite only making five of his last 13 cuts, he has not once played badly. He is a very good ball striker, and when he gets on a roll he is hard to stop. I think he has a very fair chance this week, especially so if he starts the tournament well.
The 250/1 on offer is an insult to his ability, and way too big based on his credentials. I am sure that Callum is more than capable of picking up a place here, and I am happy to give him the nod.
Rich Ramsey is a player I follow closely, and he is a true professional in the world of golf. He doesn’t have all of the flashy attributes that you see in most of the top players on Tour either. He just goes about his business quietly, always plays very well, and generally gets the most out of his game on the tough courses.
He is very good at course management - something I very much like around here - and his short game is up there with the most consistent players on Tour, which is an important factor this week.If he can manage a strong week from tee to green, he could sneak into the places at a very big price here. He is completely unfazed by the big stage and may well thrive here at Wentworth. He is definitely worth a second look, and ticks far more boxes than most people will realise.
