Last week’s longshots played quite well. Jack Davidson was my 150/1 shot and he finished three shots out of the places. It was a very good effort and he played solid golf for all four days, so no real arguments there. Darius Van Driel was my 200/1 shot and he actually finished in a tie for 10th so you might have been in the money depending on which bookmaker you went with. Overall, I’m quite happy with how both played considering their huge odds.
The players I have lined up for this week's event are both well suited to the course on paper and I think they will give us another good run for our money and with a bit of luck, they can find the place terms on offer this week. This week the DPWT heads off to the Lubker Golf Resort for the 2024 Danish Golf Championship. I have already published my two best bets for this event but I also have two longshots on my radar that are worth some consideration at huge odds.
The seven places up for grabs makes Ladbrokes my bookie choice for this week, and if you don’t already have an account with them you can also take advantage of their sign up offer. If you bet £5, you’ll get £20 in free bets. A great way to make the most of my longshots.
The first player on my longshot list this week is the talented Hurly Long. This man is a really impressive ball striker who has always shown promise and has recently been showing what he is truly capable of. His iron play has been superb in recent tournaments and he seems much more at home on the big stage this year too. When looking through the course this week, it seems to correlate well with some of the other venues on the DP World Tour that Hurly has played well at including the Jonsson Workwear Open where he shot 14 under par, and also the Czech Masters where he shot 11 under.
Prior to that he played in the Barracuda Championship on the PGA Tour, where he shot a very solid 8 under par.
He has seemingly found his swing in recent weeks and his consistent iron play should set him up well this week. His work on and around the greens has been quite impressive too, so as far as his credentials go, 350/1 is a good price for a player who is definitely going in the right direction.
My second longshot player is Sam Jones, who is a really impressive ball striker and full of talent. He is very capable at getting from tee to green and even though his short game has let him down a little bit this year, he has shown that he is capable of much better on occasion. This is his first season on the DP World Tour, but he has made his presence felt in some highly-ranked events this year, including top 10 places in the Soudal Open and the Italian Open.
He is a steady improver who hits a nice soft, consistent draw which suits this course, and he has plenty of distance off the tee. I think Sam Jones is a player going places, and his best efforts have all come at courses that are not too dissimilar to this one. The 400/1 price tag does not represent his true ability and if he plays at his best this week, then he could easily find himself in the money once again.
