To complement my main betting tips for the 2024 DPWT Championship, I also have two longshot picks, who both look certain to outplay their odds. This is a course that was designed to suit long hitters who can also hit a fade off the tee, and my two selections definitely have those skills in the bag. All they need to do is to turn up in top form.
They both come with 100/1 price tags, and if either can get in the places, it would be a fantastic result for us. It’s a big tournament, with a lot of big names in the mix, but I think we have a fighting chance here judging from what we have seen of them both this season.
Bet365 has unbeatable prices on offer for my longshot picks this week, plus five places. And if you’re signing up for the first time, they also have a great welcome offer.
Bet £10, and you’ll get £30 in free bets. Why not give it a shot?
Top of my longshot list is Francesco Laporta. He is a player that really seems to have turned a corner during the latter part of this season, and I am hopeful he can continue his run of good form. He has caught my eye here as he has a penchant for these long, accuracy-based golf courses. He is plenty long off the tee, and always ranks highly for strokes gained with his irons, but struggled to put it all together over four rounds in the early part of the season.
However, in his last four events, Francesco has really been solid in all departments, gaining two Top 10s and two Top 20s, so it would be no surprise to see him do even better here. He hits a nice soft fade, which is a very useful shot shape around here, and his short game seems to have totally transformed.
It will be tough for Francesco Laporta to break his maiden in such a prestigious event, but he is firing on all cylinders right now. I think he offers a lot of value at 100/1 based on his recent form and I am willing to give him a chance.
Following closely is Jesper Svensson, who can play exceptionally well on occasion. He won the Singapore Classic, and has achieved three other Top 5 spots this season, including two runner up efforts. As with all of my picks for this week, Jesper can hit a lovely fade from tee to green, which is a crucial skill for this particular golf course.
His short game could do with a bit of brushing up, but that isn’t a huge worry as he is quite the momentum player. Basically, if he starts out well, he could be a real force to be reckoned with this weekend. On his day, Jesper Svensson definitely has the game to compete with the very best on Tour, and I rather fancy his chances at triple figure odds. It would not surprise me at all to see Jesper make a big impact here and get his name on the leaderboard.
