With our best bets in place, it's time to move onto this week’s longshot betting tips. First off, you must bear in mind that this is a very challenging course. However, I have found two players that look like they have the potential to make the places this week.
Neither are in the form of their life, but they are both talented, and very good ball strikers (especially with their irons) which is an essential this week. They are both on the market at triple-figure odds, and both are capable of much more than their prices suggest.
William HIll offers six places for this week’s golf event, plus a generous sign up deal for new customers. Bet £10, and you’ll get £30 in free bets. Perfect if you fancy a punt on my longshots this week.
Matthew Southgate looks massively overpriced to me. He is yet to win on the DP World Tour, but he is certainly talented enough to do it, considering that he has multiple Top 10 finishes to his credit already. This week’s event is rather open, and it could be a good opportunity for Matthew to break his maiden, especially as his credentials suit this golf course particularly well.
He is pretty good off the tee, but his best attribute is his iron play.
He is a very good ball striker with his irons, so he should hit consistent greens in regulation this week, allowing for plenty of low scores. He missed the cut at the Andalucia Masters last week, but he shot eight under at the French Open the week before, and 12 under in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Although he hasn’t won on Tour, he is not to be underestimated and the 125/1 on offer is great value.
My second longshot betting tip is Jeong Weon Ko. He has been out of form this season, but I have a sneaking suspicion that he can easily come back at a course he is likely to thrive at. He has had some strong results at a few big events this year, including the Betfred British Masters, where he was able to use his strong iron play. A similar form performance should see him go well on the Jack Niklaus course.
Jeong is a very impressive ball striker with his irons and I think those that excel in that area are well worth a second look this week. As mentioned, he has been out of form recently, and will need to put a few poor performances behind him. However, he has proven he is capable in the past, and I like his chances this week. At 125/1, he could easily be going under the radar here.
