We are in store for a real treat this week as the DP World Tour heads to the Adriatic Golf Club for the 81st Italian Open. I have already posted my two best bets for this week's event, but here I have two longshots that could easily outplay their odds and give us a really good run for our money.
Two weeks ago I put up Matthieu Pavon, who placed in the US Open for us at 400/1, and we were very unlucky last week with Francesco Laporta, who started with two solid rounds of 68 before a poor start to his third round, which unfortunately blew his chances. He did come back with a good final round though and I’m putting him up again because good iron players with a high ball flight will certainly have the edge over the rest on these well-designed greens.
The Adriatic Golf Club offers plenty of room off the tee, but those that score well here are the ones that bring their best game when it comes to approach play. Both of my longshots this week have the necessary attributes to do well here, and although neither have won on Tour to date, that is factored into their huge price. I think both players are capable of exceeding expectations here this week.
I chose Bet365 for my main Italian Open betting tips yesterday, and I haven’t changed my stance. If you
bet £10, then you’ll get £30 in free bets. It takes less than two minutes to get signed up, and you won’t find a better deal at these prices anywhere else!
My first longshot for the Italian Open is Clement Sordet, who is a seriously talented golfer on his day. He had a very successful career as an amateur and has played well multiple times in signature DP World Tour events, but just hasn’t quite been able to get over the line so far. He has good form at courses similar to the Adriatic Golf Club, with good finishes in the Scandinavian Mixed, The China Open and the Jonsson Workwear Championship in recent, and he is definitely one that’s going under the radar here.
The fact he hasn’t won on Tour so far is no doubt the reason for his massive 300/1 price tag, but we need to look beyond that. He has a great swing, and a very good iron game that is likely to be well-suited to this golf course.
I don’t think we are going to see Clement become a runaway winner this week, but if you want a player who can play four steady rounds and pick up a place, then Clement Sordet could be your man
He is hitting more greens in regulation than he did last year, his short game has improved, and I rather fancy his chances this week.
My second big odds contender is Francesco Laporta who I quite fancied last week for the KLM Open too. He played really well in the two opening rounds, clocking up scores of 68, which showed his capabilities. At one point he was in the Top 10, but a poor third round, with an early double bogey, followed up with a triple bogey a few holes later, put paid to his chances.
His iron play was as good as ever, and his bad holes seemed to come off the back of poor tee shots, where he had no space to manoeuvre. However, at the Adriatic, there is far more room off the tee, which will help Francesco greatly. His iron play was good for all four rounds last time - an essential around this week's course, and he has another really good chance of sneaking into the places in my opinion. He is still waiting to break his maiden on Tour, but he is capable of doing so and could play really well here with the support of his home crowd. As a longshot for places, Francesco Laporta definitely gets my vote again.
