For today’s betting tips I have another each way Lucky 15 for you to take a look at. I’ve picked out two over the sticks at Uttoxeter and two Flat runners at Ascot, all four with equally solid chances of making the money.
The first of my four selections runs in the opening race at Ascot. This is the horse I fancied for the Northumberland Plate, where things went wrong for him mid-race, but with a clearer run this time he shouldn’t be too far away and I‘m willing to give him another chance. My Friday NAP is the final leg of my Lucky 15 where we have an unexposed three-year-old with plenty of potential who screams value to me in a very winnable race.
Looking ahead to the weekend, we have plenty of good racing action, with three Group races at Ascot and another at York. I’ll have some selections for each of those big races. Make sure you pop back tomorrow to find out more.
Courtesy of Bet365 new customers have the chance to claim a great offer. If you bet £10, you’ll get £30 in free bets. Who can resist some free bets for the weekend?
This is a fairly open two mile Handicap, where you could make a fair case for more than one in the lineup. Sir Mark Prescott's four-year-old, True Legend, looks a nice sort, despite being hard to win with. He has plenty of ability though, and when the penny fully drops, he should prove much better than his current mark. Another likely candidate is Global Heat, who is running for the Godolphin team. He has won off a mark 9lb higher than his current mark, but his most recent efforts have been a tad disappointing.
My first Lucky 15 pick is Howth, for Michael Appleby. I fancied this one in the Northumberland Plate last time out, but things didn’t totally go to plan for him. He was caught behind a wall of horses, and was never able to get into the race, but this smaller field shouldn’t pose those issues. His run that day also came after a 100 day break, so it’s possible he may have needed it.
Prior to his break he won well at Wolverhampton off a mark of 84 and backed it up by running a big race at Newcastle next time off an increased mark of 88 and again didn’t have the clearest path in the home straight. Howth clearly has a fair level of ability, certainly enough to get competitive here and he stays past two miles. I think he is going under the radar here at a double figure price.
This Handicap Hurdle looks like it will turn out to be a really good race. Dr Seb for the Olly Murphy team has been progressing nicely, and won well over course and distance last time out. He has clear ability and needs to be taken into consideration, but this deeper field may not be quite right for him. School Days Over also ran well last time out, and a return to peak form looks close, but he concedes weight to a decent field here and may find one or two too good.
I think the one to side with is
Hillsin, for Alan Jones, who has won his last two starts, whilst also stepping up in trip, and I think he still looks well-handicapped off a mark of 104. He goes up another three furlongs here, but I think this has been the plan for him for a while now and the longer trip looks well within his range.
He is a very good traveller, which you need around Uttoxeter, and he has finished out his races strongly over shorter trips too. I see no reason why he shouldn’t run a big race here.
We are staying at Uttoxeter for another Handicap Hurdle, over 2m 4f this time, and again this should be a really entertaining contest. Olly Murphy’s Liverpool Knight is top weight here. Even though he doesn't always put his best foot forward, if he is there or thereabouts at the final turn, he could go close. Earth Cry is also a nice improver seeking a three timer but he is up another 6lb here in a deeper field so he may need to find more again.
My selection here is the Fergal O’Brien-trained Police Academy, who makes his second start after an encouraging seasonal debut, and he looks open to plenty based on that effort. He travelled well and only emptied in the closing stages, finishing a clear second, so he should definitely improve from that on his second outing. His only other run here at Uttoxeter was last season, where he won well over two miles and the return to a faster surface is likely to play right into his hands. His previous two wins and best efforts have come on a similar surface and it’s highly unlikely that fitness will be an issue here. I think Police Academy is a cracking each way bet and he gets my vote.
We’re back at Ascot for the final leg of my Lucky 15. Mutaawid offers clear potential here for the Gosden team, but on his return to turf, he has to prove he handles the ground, especially as he didn’t manage to get his head in front in a weaker contest previously. He still has scope for improvement, but his price is much too short, with all facts considered. The dual-campaigned Burdett Road is an intriguing runner here, and as this race is most likely his prep run for next month's Ebor, he may not be at peak fitness this time around.
The one I fancy, and my NAP bet of the day, is the Owen Burrows-trained Hosaamm, who is a lovely-looking colt with some very strong form in the book. He won impressively on his penultimate start at Newbury over a slightly shorter 1m 2f, where he was really game and stuck to his task, which I like a lot. He then finished second on his first attempt over this trip, doing his best work late on, which suggests that he is well worth another crack. He has only had three runs to date, and still has plenty to learn, but what we have seen of him so far suggests that he has bags of talent.
