Racing Fans, as the weather continues to play havoc with the Jumps racing this weekend, I’ve decided to go for a Lucky 15 on the all-weather card at Kempton. And I must say that it’s a brilliant card on Saturday, with some highly-competitive racing, which is just how we like it. The four I’ve found have everything in their favour, so I’m hoping for a nice result to carry us through to next week's Aintree Grand National meeting.
On that note, I’ll be posting plenty of betting tips for all three days of the Aintree meeting and it almost goes without saying that I’ll also be paying close attention to the most-watched race in the world - The Aintree Grand National - watch out for my runner-by-runner guide and star ratings for every horse in the field!
Thanks to the all-weather surface at Kempton, we still have some very competitive racing on Saturday and William Hill has a very nice bonus offer up for grabs.
Just bet £10, and you’ll get £30 in free bets. With Aintree in mind, don’t miss out on this one…
There’s a pretty nice lineup of three-year-olds in the opener here and Grandlad, running for James Horton, is a really interesting contender. He ran a huge race on debut at Newcastle and sets a pretty high standard here based on that run. He is a lovely colt, and one that is likely to improve further, so he surely won't be far away if he can put in a repeat effort.
However, there is one that I think is better, which is Kodi Lion, who runs for Charlie Fellowes. He ran a fantastic race on his 7 furlong debut last year, just getting pipped at the post, so this drop back to 6 furlongs should suit him really well. He hit the front easily at the 6 furlong pole last time out, and provided he is ready to go first time out this season, he could have a big say here. He has been gelded since that last run and had a bit of time off, so I’m happy to take the chance that he is ready to win here.
Next, we move on to the Fillies Mile and this is a fascinating contest. It looks like there is going to be a fair bit of pace up front and that will definitely suit a couple in this field. Mystic Pearl is one of them and she is a very talented sort on her day. She had a fine season last year, topping it off with a win in a Listed race at Sandown coming off a fast pace and this race may well suit her talents so I think she may be slightly underestimated here.
Nevertheless, the one I’m siding with is
Choisya
for the Crisford team. She is a course and distance winner, which I like around Kempton, and she has done nothing but progress with every run.
She is another that loves a fast pace and she showed a wicked turn of foot to win last time out
too. I think she is still well treated based on her latest run and I find it hard to see her far away at the line.
The Rosebery is always a cracking race to watch and it takes a seriously classy performance to win here. Old Harovian could be very well-handicapped off a mark of 93 and is sure to receive plenty of support for the Balding team, especially so with Oisin Murphy in the saddle, but I believe there is one that could beat him here.
The horse I fancy is Chillingham, for Ed Bethell, who has a very good record when it comes to seasonal debuts. According to Bethell, his gelding has been ready to run for a few weeks now, so this run can’t come soon enough and I would expect to see the very best version of Chillingham in this race on Saturday. He is weighted to run well and still very much unexposed. It’s unlikely we’ve seen the best of him so far, and he looks set for a big run in this race.
The final selection for my Lucky 15 comes in the two-mile Handicap. But before I get onto that one. I just have to say that I really like the look of Aqwaam at a double-figure price, so he’s worth looking at for an each way play. He has progressed all year, and is clearly in good form for another step up in class, so I can easily see him going close here.
That said, I think the likeliest winner is the current favourite, Sweet Fantasy. Like Chillingham, she was also ready to run last weekend, but rain stopped play so she has ended up here. She runs off a mark of just 87, and since switching to James Owen’s yard, she has won both of her Hurdles starts to date. She looks especially well-Handicapped in this field, and we have seen her run some big races on the Flat previously. I think she’ll be bang on at the finish here.
Worth a look 👀
