Racing fans, we have some brilliant racing to get into at Sandown tomorrow and I have put together another Lucky 15 for you. We have Grade 1 action with the Celebration Chase where we’ll get to see the clash between El Fabiolo and Jonbon, plus two exciting Grade 2s and an interesting Handicap Hurdle to end the day. I feel pretty good about all four of these selections, which I’ll be punting as a Lucky 15.
Looking ahead to next week, we have the Punchestown Festival and I will be previewing all of the Graded races for the last big Jumps meeting of the season. Make sure that you don’t miss out on those.
Bet365 are the sponsors of today’s Sandown card and they have a very special offer for you. If you sign up today and
bet £10, and you’ll get £30 in free bets. It’s a really great deal from one of the best bookies out there.
This renewal of the Oaksey Chase is an absolute cracker and there are a few in here with chances. Ga Law lines up for the Jamie Snowden team, and he would have a decent chance on his best form, but he’s a bit unreliable these days and I feel he’d go better with a bit more cut in the ground. Easy Game for Willie Mullins is another that commands respect, but I’m certain that the one to beat is The Real Whacker. Everything looks to be right in his favour, with the trip and the ground being perfect for him. As a strong travelling front runner he will be incredibly hard to take on in this race.
For me, the highlight of the day for me is the clash between Jonbon and
El Fabiolo. Jonbon is a good jumper and will surely run a good race here. But he stepped up to 2m 5f last time out and it proved to work a treat for him, so this drop back to 2 miles doesn’t look like an obvious move and he’s likely to prove second best. Although things didn't go to plan for El Fabiolo in the Champion Chase,
he is clearly the quicker of the pair and provided he gets round in one piece, it is hard to see him getting beaten
here.
The Select Hurdle looks like a rematch between Langer Dan and Impaire Et Passe, who have just 1lb between them in the ratings and it would be no surprise to see them finish alongside each other again. Langer Dan backed up his Cheltenham win with a huge run at Aintree and it’s not unreasonable to think he can repeat that here at Sandown. The track should suit him just fine, but my worry is the ground. His best form has come on a softer and that makes me think Impaire Et Passe will be hard to beat. He has really started to find his form in his last few starts and he might even be open to a little bit more improvement. The ground will be much more in his favour and he is the most likely winner.
The final leg of my Lucky 15 comes in the final race at Sandown and there are plenty you could make a case for. Sa Majeste is back for Willie Mullins, and he is capable of far more than we saw on his last outing, so it would be no surprise to see him return to form. Pic Roc is improving well for Ben Pauling too, but the one to side with is Lookaway, for Neil King, who has some very strong form on good ground. He was second in the Greatwood Hurdle, second in the Grade 1 Challow Hurdle and then last time out finished just 10 lengths back off Mystical Power, who needs no introduction. The form Lookaway brings into this race is solid and a mark of 137 is not out of his comfort zone. He’s a strong finisher and I expect him to win the finale.
