Racing fans, I hope you are all well and enjoyed the weekend racing. At Newbury we had the Lockinge Stakes, where there was a shock result, with Audience putting up a dominant display to win from the front and he never looked like getting caught. He opened up at 50/1 and went off at 22/1, so there was some support for him, but nobody really expected him to go and beat the proven Group performers in the race, it was a brilliant performance.
We have another busy week of racing and to start us off, I have some Jumps action coming from both Hexham and Huntingdon on Tuesday evening. We have quite a tricky card at both courses, but I have managed to find four selections that should give us a good run for our money. One of my betting tips is also one of my favourite horses in training, so all eyes on him. I’ll have plenty more betting tips for you, so stay tuned for a big week of racing ahead.
With a busy week of racing ahead of us, why not try out this fantastic offer from BetMGM. If you sign up and
bet £10, you’ll get £40 in free bets. The perfect way to get your week off to a good start.
My first betting tip comes in the Conditional Handicap Hurdle, where top weight Didn’t Ask has a decent chance. He comes into this making his Handicap debut and improvement from him is not out of the question. He could go really well, but he will also need a lot of things to go right for him.
So, I think the one to side with is Better Be Definite, who won on his penultimate start, before running a blinder over course and distance two weeks back to finish just behind Atomic Angel. He hasn’t finished progressing yet, and back on a faster surface we are likely to see even more from him. Better Be Definite is a strong traveller, who is getting better with each run, and looks the most likely winner in this contest.
In what looks to be quite a weak contest, I’m going to side with course and distance winner Calvic who drops back down in trip after a failed attempt over three miles. He travelled well and was far from disgraced, but he clearly isn’t a three-miler and we should see him run much better here.
Iron Heart may push him all the way, but that one’s jumping has let him down of late, which is my main issue with him. I think
the percentage call here is Calvic as a previous course and distance winner, and he should go very close here back in his comfort zone.
In the three mile Handicap Hurdle we have a cracking line up and Midnightreflection looks poised for a return to form, and is quite well-handicapped here. The issue I have with her is that she still tends to make a lot of mistakes, which she won’t get away with here, as there are some very reliable runners in this field.
My preference here is Ben Pauling’s Mole Court. He is one of my favourite horses in training and one that just loves to race. He never fails to show enthusiasm, and is already a winner over Hurdles and fences. He runs here off a Hurdles mark of just 116, and he won his last outing over fences off 120 so he is obviously well-treated. I imagine he will get another front-running ride from Ben Jones and I expect Mole Court to go very close here.
Lighthouse Mill returns to the racetrack after a long break, and if he returns to his best form he wouldn’t be out of this, so he could be worth a market check. Ve Day is another that has a big run in him, but Scudamore shaped with plenty of promise on his return to action and he should be able to build on that effort.
He was very progressive last season and could prove to be a lot better than his current mark suggests, so he looks more appealing than most. Although he only came seventh last time out, he was only four lengths back off the winner, and that form will likely be good enough to win this race.
