Mid-Seasonal Invitational 2022: A League of Legends Tournament

Eleven League of Legends teams have made their way to the Mid-Seasonal Invitational (MSI) after proving themselves during the Spring Season. Now, on the 10th of May, it’s time for the competition to become even tighter. For the most part, this upcoming tournament will have a BO1 format, meaning you’ll have to manage your bet slip with more care than usual.

If you’re new to League of Legends betting, this article is for you. We’ll give you an idea of what to expect out of the biggest League of Legends event so far this year. We’ll talk about which teams the bookies are probably expecting to win or lose so you can make more educated bets that might just bring you that extra profit you’ve been looking for.

The Favourite – The Timeless T1

Now, some of the teams are yet to be decided. For example, the LCS still doesn’t have a champion to represent the region until the Grand Finals around the 24th of April. The same goes for the LPL league and the VCS league. (If you want to bet on these events before they’re over, head on to Bet365 eSports to get the best odds offers).

That being said, you’ll see a couple of familiar names in the mix, such as the timeless T1 and proven European kings G2. It’s quite hard to form a conclusion since some of the Spring events aren’t completed yet, but assuming 100 Thieves (currently the clear favourite in LCS and RNG (favourite in LPL) make the final cut, we reckon we’re going to see extremely tight betting spreads.

Of course, the Korean and the Chinese who have been dominating Worlds and populating the highest strata of the game for years will most definitely get their deserved attention. T1, for example, is an obvious favourite. Not only did they almost get to the Grand Finals of last year’s Worlds, their members have also been playing with each other for a long time now. (Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok has literally never left the team).

With EDward Gaming (last Worlds champions) falling off at the LPL, more eyes even turned to T1. And for a very good reason. At the LCK, T1 didn’t lose one single series, finishing off with a perfect 18-0! (DAMWON Gaming, the team that kicked them off back in the Semifinals of Worlds 2021, finished 11-7).

The Underdogs – DetonatioN FocusMe and PSG Talon

Let’s talk about the best team to pick if you’re hoping to make a much riskier bet. After looking at the less popular contestants, we reckon that only DetonatioN FocusMe from Japan and PSG Talon from Hong Kong are the only teams that have a clear chance of pulling an upset (according to available data). DetonatioN FocusMe has won about $700,000 in total winnings, while PSG Talon has won about $250,000.

We like DetonatioN FocusMe because of how well they’ve been performing recently, both in A-tier and S-tier events. To give you an example, they won the LJL Spring 2022 in an assertive fashion, finishing 19-2. What’s even more impressive is that they actually made it to the 2021 League of Legends World Championship (although they got thrown into the cell together with T1 and EDward Gaming, which was the worst luck any team could have at the time). They got a 0-6 whipping. Still, a lot of teams don’t even make it to Worlds, right?

On the other hand, we have PSG Talon. Like DetonatioN FocusMe, they also made it to Worlds 2021. They fared a little better though, leaving the tournament with a 3-3 record after getting into the same group as Royal Never Give Up and Hanwha Life Esports. As a matter of fact, they fared better than Fnatic who ended up finishing with a 1-5 standing. Perhaps this time PSG Talon will finally make their breakthrough to reach the Main Event and play with the sharks? If so, you wouldn’t want to miss betting on them at Unibet eSports while the best opportunities remain ripe for the taking!
