The 2024 Cheltenham Festival is moving ever closer, and I’ve got two more ante post selections lined up for you, both at big prices.
This time around I’m showcasing the Novice Stayers and my first tip comes in the Brown Advisory Novices Chase (Wednesday) and the other is for the Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle (Friday). Both of these horses are nicely-profiled and well worthy of adding to your notebooks.
If you don’t already have an account with Coral, then you might just want to get your hands on their bet £5, get £20 in free bets deal for new customers. It’s a great way to take advantage of today’s ante post picks.
It’s been a difficult season in both Novice divisions, but I have two double-figure selections for you. I expect the pair of them to be bang there on the day, and at much shorter prices too. Get them in your trackers now.
My first selection is Monty’s Star, who is a beautiful Chaser and is most definitely overpriced for this race. He has been getting better with each run and connections have now defined the Brown Advisory as his target. That to me is very significant, because along with his staying power, he has plenty of gears too, which makes him dangerous around Cheltenham.
He was pulled up in the Albert Bartlett last year, but that doesn’t worry me in the slightest. I’ve seen a much-improved horse now that he’s going over fences. On his Chase debut at Fairyhouse he finished third to Corbetts Cross and improved a fair amount for the experience. Next time out at Punchestown, where he stepped up to three miles, he won effortlessly, beating Three Card Brag by over five lengths. He is a really good jumper, fairly versatile with the ground conditions, and with the Brown Advisory now labelled as his target, I think he has an outstanding chance.
My second ante post selection comes in the Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle, where the market is still very open at this point in time. But to my way of thinking High Class Hero ticks all of the right boxes here and at 12/1 he could be very much overpriced. He is trained by Willie Mullins, who won this race with The Nice Guy a few years back, and I think these two are very similar sorts.
High Class Hero won his Bumper for Mullins and has since gone on to win his three Novice Hurdles easily and in really good style too. Although he potentially has the gears to drop down to the Ballymore trip, I feel he will act better over the three miles and further progression can be expected.
He is entered in the 2m 6f Nathaniel Lacy at the Dublin Racing Festival, where he is currently third favourite, and provided things go to plan in Dublin, I imagine he will really shorten up in the Cheltenham ante post market. I don’t necessarily expect him to win Nathaniel Lacy, a place would do just fine as a prep for the Albert Bartlett.
