Can you actually believe that we are only 10 weeks away from the 2024 Cheltenham Festival? I can’t either, but what I can believe is that I have found two absolutely cracking ante post bets for you.
Both of my selections are currently at double-figure prices and I’m sure they will be a lot shorter on the day. One of them runs on Sunday, so now is the perfect time to back him as I think he will run a huge race and then go up in trip at Cheltenham.
William Hill is currently offering a deal where if you bet £10, you’ll get £30 in free bets, what better way to cover your Cheltenham ante post bets!
The Willie Mullins-trained filly Kargese has the potential to be something rather extraordinary. She is owned by Kenny Alexander, who also owns super mare Honeysuckle and following the latter’s retirement, it could just be that he has another special one on his hands here.
She came from France with a big reputation, having won two of her three starts, which included victory in the Grade 3 Prix Sagan. All three runs were on very soft or heavy conditions, which is a trait Willie likes when buying his French mares. It shows that they have plenty of stamina to go with their speed and this has worked well for the Mullins’ team for a while now.
On her Irish debut she finished second, effectively splitting Kala Conti and Nurburnrig who are both Grade 2 winners. Not only was she forced to go wide round the bends, but she was extremely keen the whole way round and still managed to only go down by just 3/4 length. She was last off the bridle, and was clearly the best horse in the race.
Off the back of that last run it’s abundantly clear that she is open to a ton of improvement. Willie may have two very good geldings on his hands with Salvator Mundi and Majborough, but make no mistake, Kargese is a top-class filly and one that has every chance of taking the Triumph Hurdle.
Croke Park is a horse I have been banging on about since he was purchased by Gigginstown Stud for a cool £400k. He was more than eye-catching when finishing second on his Point-to-Point debut and stepped up to win next time out before being sent to Gordon Elliott.
On his yard debut he finished second in his only Bumper start, but looked super-impressive in both his starts over Hurdles, where he beat some good horses including Search For Glory and Mel Monroe, so there’s no doubt that he is getting the hang of things.
For his most recent start, he stepped up to 2m 4f and won going away in the final furlong, so it seems as though the further he goes the better he gets. He is entered in the Lawlors Of Naas this Sunday against some smart horses and if he can place in the race, I would see that as a perfect prep for the Albert Bartlett. He looks an out and out three-miler and the 16/1 on offer is a cracking price.
