We are getting close to the weekend, but before we get there, I have a NAP selection for Friday at Ascot and it’s an absolute cracker. This horse was purchased from Ireland and has since won all three of his starts over Hurdles for new connections.
As I mentioned in yesterday's article, I have a good bunch of selections for this weekend, so don't forget to come back tomorrow for the full list.
Courtesy of my good friends at Ladbrokes, I have a superb new customer offer for you to check out - bet £5 and you’ll get £20 in free bets – it’s a great way to get the weekend ball rolling.
The National Hunt course at Ascot is a right-handed, triangular course covering 1m 5f, which is situated inside of the Flat track. Races are often won or lost here during the steep climb from Swinley Bottom to the winning post, which brings a true test of stamina.
Today’s selection is making his Chase debut, but he is no stranger to being tested and as a relatively unexposed seven-year-old, he has just the right level of maturity to carry this off.
Although this Handicap Chase has just four runners, we have a very intriguing little contest here. Harry Derham’s runner, Monviel, finished second to JPR One at Newton Abbot last time out and that form was nearly franked at Cheltenham on Saturday, until JPR One slipped on landing at the last and unseated Brendan Powell when looking like the winner.
Samarrive for the Paul Nicholls team, looks to me like he will improve a fair amount this season too, but for my money it’s The Carpenter all the way. I have really taken a shine to Nicky Henderson’s seven-year-old, who was purchased from the Crawford team after finishing second in his only Bumper at Navan. He has since won all three of his Hurdle starts for Nicky and he has shown himself to be a really strong traveller, so I don’t think he’ll be at all fazed by the steep climb to the line. I’m really looking forward to seeing him over a fence and I think he is going to be very hard to beat here.
