We have a really good all-weather card at Southwell on Thursday evening, and there are two selections that have particularly caught my eye. I’m putting them both up as each way bets, due to the competitive nature of the races they are running in, but I think they both have genuine chances.
Let’s put it this way - if things fall right for them, then one winner would give us our profit for the day, so that’s my aim. If both of them place, we will still be slightly in profit, which is a pretty good position to be in, and they both tick all of the right boxes.
Coming this weekend, we have the return of the first big Flat Handicap race this season, which is the William Hill Lincoln Handicap and it takes place at Doncaster on Saturday. Overall, Doncaster offers a very competitive day of racing, so I’ll be putting up an each way Lucky 15 for you to try. My Saturday betting tips will be out on Friday after the prices go live, so keep an eye out for those.
With the William Hill Lincoln Handicap being the highlight race this weekend, we have been given a fantastic offer by the race sponsors.

My first each way betting tip for the evening comes in the competitive seven furlong Handicap and you could make a case for a few of these. Daring Legend won really well at Newcastle, and he has the chance to step forward again, but the step up in trip at a crucial stage in his career doesn’t seem quite right to me.
Drama could have a chance if he proves to be effective on the all-weather surface. He might well take a step forward for it too, but it means that he’s an unknown quantity for now. Engineer is probably the class angle, and sets a very good standard, but off top weight he might be slightly vulnerable to a more unexposed youngster.
So for me, Flag Carrier is the one to side with here, and he should be well ahead of his mark for this. He makes his debut for Brian Toomey and we know he handles Southwell based on his run here in December. He stepped up to seven furlongs last time out at Kempton, which seemed to bring plenty more out from this gelding too.
Before the start he was very much on edge and far too keen during the first half of the race too. But although he wasted a lot of energy, he still found plenty heading to the finish line and won by a decent margin. That says to me that if he can settle just a little better, then he is surely going to perform even better this time around.
His two best runs to date have come over this trip, he clearly has ability and remains very much unexposed. So at 6/1 each way I think he’s a great bet
Just half an hour later we have another competitive event, where the hot favourite is Medici Pass. But that one has taken a big hike in the weights here, and may well be worth taking on. It’s more than possible he could win again, especially after his smooth success at Newcastle last time out, but he will need to back that up with a 5lb penalty and at even money, there are better options in this field.
Van Zant also has a fair chance off bottom weight and a return to form looks imminent, but I much prefer Neptune Legend here. He’s a very consistent sort and moving back up to a mile is a really good move in my opinion. He has won over shorter distances recently, but he also won over the mile back in October and that is the sort of form to put him right in the mix here. He is a straightforward type of horse, and if he catches the right break up the straight, he should stay on strongly at the end. You can get 5/1 about Neptune Legend and I think he is the right shout here.
18.00: Flag Carrier @ 6/1
